Victory by Ike
In 1956 Election
Washington (U.R) Three
Republican congresmen told one
of President Eisenhower's aides
at a White House conference
that they are convinced the
President "will run and win in
1956."
The three, Reps. Albert W.
Cretella (Conn.), Alvain R. Bush
(Pa.) and H. R. Gross (la.), ex
pressed their views to Homer H.
Gruenther, a presidential assist
ant on legislative liaison. They
were called to the White House
yesterday for a lunch confer
ence and "a general discussion"
on a variety of subjects.
Cretella said the discussion
touched on Republican party
unity, the postal pay raise bill,
the farm program and other do
mestic matters.
"The discussion was not pin
pointed to any particular sub
ject" Cretella said. "But there
vas optimism about Mr. Eisen
hower's popularity. We ex
pressed the conviction that Mr.
Eisenhower will run, and win,

Confined To Hospital
Rome (U.R) Daniel A. Reed
(R-N.Y.), hospitalized here be
cause of a heart attack Sunday,
will need a mortth or more of
absolute rest "because of his
age," his doctor said today.
Dr. Giorgio Matolli, one of
Italy's leading heart specialists,
said the 79-year-old congressman
was in "fair condition" after
spending a comfortable night.
Six Bids Received for
Timberline Operation
Portland (U.R) Lloyd Olson,
supervisor of the Mt. Hood na
tional forest, said today six bids
have ben received from would
be operators of Timberline
lodge.
He said names of bidders
would not be released until
there was time to study the bids.
The lodge was closed Feb. 18
over failure of payment of elec
tric bills.
