Truck Speed Limit Measure Tabled Salem (U.R) The Senate Highway Committee headed by ccn Warren McMinimee (R- Tillamook) late yesterday tabled a House approved bill which would have increased the legal speed limit for trucks from 45 miles an hour to 55. Rep. Joe Rogers (D-Independ- enrpV one of those who intro duced the measure, said he hmieht the hisher speed would help speed the flow of traffic and reduce the hazard of long lines of cars piling up behind a slow moving truck, then try ing to thread traffic to get in front. But Lee Bown, deputy super intendent of state police, who was questioned by the commit tee, was against higher speed for trucks and said where trucks travel faster, there is an upward curve in the accident rate. Committee Formed To Oppose Admission Of Red China To UN New York (U.R) A group of prominent citizens including 23 Senators, 92 Representatives and nine governors have formed a "committee of one million" to oppose admission of Communist China into the United Nations. A policy statement said the newly-formed committee, also congratulated President Eisen hower and Congress on the deci sion to defend Formosa, and emphasized the committee's stand for "maintenance of For mosa as a dynamic force for the eventual freedom of the Chinese people." Washintrfnn (U.R) Four southern states told the Supreme Court today they should be given plenty of time and leeway in handling the complex prob lem of mixing the races in pub lic schools. The states Virginia, South ramiina North Carolina and Florida presented the South's side of the touchy segregation problem as the Supreme Court began its second day of hearings on the mechanics of integration. Their views were offered in written briefs and followed by oral arguments. They were in sharp contrast to those of attor neys for Negro parents wno have urged an immediate end to racial barriers in public schools. French Driver Wins Grand Prix Auto Race Pau. France (U.R) Jean Beh- ra of France, driving a Maserati, won the Grand Prix de Pau for the second time in a row yester day in a race marred by the death of Italian amateur driver Mario Alborghetti. Alborghetti. racing in tne Grand Prix for the first time, was killed on a hair pin curve on the 31st lap. The 25-year-old Italian, in a new Alpine racer, failed to slow down, jumped over the straw bales and landed nnside down. His spine was broken.
