Later she mar ried but was unhappy and left her hus band. She and her son have made their home with my mother ever since. My mother and sister . botn saw him. Of course, he is middle aged now. but they recognised him. People tell us he is married, but he can't be very happy or he would not come to look at my sister's home as he did. "What do you think, and what should my sister do?" (A) The chances are that both your sister and this man have memory images of each other which they have exaggerated through the years and have al lowed to interfere with the hap piness of their marriages. Botn have doubtless secretly thought they would be happier had they married each other. The best thing your sister could do would be to find an op portunity to meet this man again and to talk with him. She would find that he is not the fairy prince she foolishly allowed to slip through her fingers, but an ordinary, run-of-the-mill middle aged man. He, too, would find her an ordinary middle-aged woman, not the girl of his dreams who has doubtless popped into his mind every time things in his married life did not please him. If they could meet through mu tual friends or through your min ister, I am sure both would quickly be cured of the romantic memories that have plagued both of them through the years. (COPYRIGHT 1955. ARTHRITIS OF Remember the fellow who slips in between the Lone Ran cer and Groucho. puts on a bar ber coat, spectacles and stetho scope and tens the lady 'how the medicine wakes up her liver bile? In my suspicious way I thought he was a phony, but the other day I heard from his Dr. Bredr c o u sin, who has arthritis of the joints and that reminded me of a neighbor of ours on Chapel Streefltin Ca nandaigua who used to come down with pneumonia on the lungs. Everyone knows I'm no authority, but just a plodding practitioner turned quack in order to make a decent living. A quack, says Webster, is one who professes skill or knowledge in any matter of which he knows little or nothing. Modestly I pro fess only -as much knowledge i the subject to joint disability as is available to the medical pro fession, having had more time to study the subject than most real doctors have. There was a bowling alley right around the corner from medical school, and it is possible that I cut class the day Prof. Pohlman lectured on the biliary tract. I remember only one variety of bile, but then there's a vague notion that all gall is divided into three parts. So i had better not be too positive about arthritis which doesn't affect the joints. To my mind arthritis means joint inflammation and nothing else. Recognized medical authori ties, from Osier down to the present time, have described various types or kinds of joint disability under such names as rheumatoid arthritis, arthritis deformans, atrophic arthritis, hypertrophic arthritis, osteo arthritis, degenerative arthritis, and several more, but it has proved impossible to determine whether these authors are talk ing about the same thing. When one has studied them all, one with a one-track mind cannot help wondering how they get away with it. A bulletin issued by the Arthritis and Rheumatism Foun dation, 23 W. 45th St., New York 36, N.Y., last May said: "It should now be recogni zed that treatment with the Vacancies Listed For Navy Pilots There are vacancies for eight pilots in .the two Navy reserve .squadrons in Salem, it was re ported today, and former Navy pilots in the Medford area may be eligible to join the units. Lt. . W.. R. Mays, USNR, said a meeting has been arranged for former Navy fliers tomorrow evening at the Navy reserve of fice in the Federal building, 33 North Riverside ave.,.at which time questions pertaining to such duty will be answered. All form et Navy pilots with the rank of lieutenant or lieutenant (jg),are invited to attend. The squadrons are on flight and pay status, he said, and week end flights are made regularly. If enough pilots from this area are interested, a personnel trans port, plane will make regular fiights'here to take them to Sa lem for flight training and prac tice. Cmdr. Neil Bryant, Salem, is scheduled to fly here for tomor row's meeting. . PLEADS GUILTY Portland (U.R) Airman 3-c Richard I.
