Bartlett has been named general chairman of the Medford Armed Forces day observance, scheduled for Satur day, May 21. Plans call for a military show and celebration, with displays of military equipment, a fly -over of military aircraft, and exhibits by local National Guard and Army reserve units. Assistant chairman for the ob servance will be Mayor Earl Miller of Medford. Publicity committee chairman will be Jennings Pierce Sr. Committeemen Named In charge of the program will be Col. The testimony was before the civil service commission on an appeal by Glos. At the time the hearing recessed at noon, there was no concrete evidence that Williamson had paid money to Glos or that Glos, who resigned under fire, had promised to help Williamson ' get a liquor-by-the" drink license for his tavern. Butler said Democratic gains in Michigan and Chicago elec tions "support our belief that a great Democratic victory is in the making for 1956." Republican National Chair man Leonard W. Hall countered that although ' Democrats won the mayor's race in Chicago, the GOP made a good showing in that "traditionally Democrat ic stronghold." And he said the Michigan results are still incom plete and await "further clarifi cation." In Chicago, Democrat Richard Daley beat Republican Robert E. Merriam in the hotly contest ed mayoralty race. The people were friendly. But where once they were loyal Councilman Named At Jacksonville To Succeed Long Jacksonville E. D. Mclntyre this week was named by Mayor John F. Keaveny to fill a vacan cy on the Jacksonville city council. Mclntyre is co-owner of the Jacksonville market. The council vacancy was ere ated by the recent resignation of Jack Long due to the press of personal business. Mclntyre will fill the remainder of Long's term, which expires at the end of this year. In appointing. Mclntyre to the post, Mayor Keaveny expressed his appreciation to Long for the work he has done on the council. Dates of August 6 and 7 were approved by the council for the annual Jacksonville Gold Rush Jubilee. The dates were request ed by Ike Dunford, of the Jack sonville Lions club, which spon sors the event. Dunford noted that work on booths and street decorations will start on Au gust 5. Purchase of a water system for the small city park was approv ed by the council. The water system will be installed by the Jacksonville Garden club, which keeps up the park. The council heard the first reading of a proposed city cur few ordinance. The ordinance would forbid youngsters under 16 years of age from being in public places between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. unless they were accompanied by their parents or had their parents' consent. It provides for fines not to exceed $100. Jobs To Be Plentiful For Agriculture Grads Urbana, 111. (U.R) In the pext five years there will be two jobs for every agricultural grad uate, according to experts at the University of Illinois. Openings will exist for exten sion specialists, salesmen, sales managers, agricultural engineers and especially vocational agri culture teachers, according to H W. Hannah, associate dean of the university's agricultural school, Hannah said the university has the equipment and facilities for training 50 per cent more agriculture students than are now enrolled. Average yearly salaries for agricultural graduates engaged m educational work range from $3,700 to $9,000, he said. As of March 31, the branch had deposits totaling $26,513,- 424, compared to $22,677,312 on the same date last year. The March 31, 1955 total of loans was $10,585,926, compared to $9,890,855 on March 31, 1954.
