Sunday, April 3. 1955 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRXBUXE OTI Still able lo imilt, Mrs. Mamie Eisenhower (left), greets Mrs. Edward Martin, wife of Pennsylyania senator, after seeing dupli cate of her specially designed dress being worn by another guest at White House reception. Mrs. Walter. F. George, wife of Georgia senator (center). Mrs. Eisenhower's dress was designed by Mollie Parnis. Mrs. Durris Crane wore duplicate. (International) Mrs. Eisenhower Plans to Wear Duplicated Frock Washington (U.R) Mrs. Eisenhower apparently is going f to go right on wearing her new spring print dress, even though a lot of other women seem to have one just like it. Washington society was thrown into a tizzy Wednesday when the first lady and the wife of a capital . businessman cturned up at the same tea in what looked like identical frocks. Designer Mollie Parnis of New York confessed there are 90 copies of the dress in circu lation around the country. She said she is "simply miserable." But Mrs. Eisenhower appear ed unconcerned over the situ ation. Her social secretary, Mary Jane McCaffrey, said today that the first lady has "no interest" in it at all. She apparently intends to keep on wearing the blue and green taffeta and the betting here is that all the other women who own other copies will do the same. Honolulu, T. H. (U.R) The Honolulu Advertiser has ad vised Mrs. Durries Crane and her dress designer to "dry those tears" over the identical copy of Mamie Eisenhower's gown. "After all, ladies,' 'an Adverti ser editorial said, '.'millions and millions of men in the last war wore clothing identical in nearly every respect with that worn by Mamie's husband give or take a few stars." Sale of Cookies Earns Large Sum For Area Camps A report made last week from the Rogue Valley Area Girl Scout headquarters indicated tha this year's annual cookie ale conducted by the girls has contributed the largest profit to the coming program in the his tory of the council. From the area which covers Grants Pass and Illinois Valley, Ashland, and Medford districts 1880 cases, or 22,560 boxes of cookies were sold. This made a total profit to the camp fund of $2,600.16. In addition to the fig ure, five cents per box went to the individual troops. The Girl Scout camp program which is financed through the cockie sales covers all types of camping, six day camps in the area, the established Low Echo camp at Lake o' the Woods, and troop and trip camping. Among improvements being made this summer at Low Echo are the purchase of four new Chris Craft flat bottom type boats, a new unit or shelter to accomodate 24 girls because of growing camp needs, general maintenance improvements and remodeling for quarters for a maintenance man, new fire fight ing equipment and an electric line being put in by California Oregon Power company to re place a Delco plant. ' Half Your Calories v For You; Rest Doctor's Omaha, Neb. (U.R) Most Americans actually live on half the calories they consume, a bio chemist at Creighton University here claims. Dr. Victor E. Levine says "the doctor lives on the other half." The excess calories, he says, cause overweight, heart trouble, high blood pressure, and similar ailments. Heavy diets are not needed by most people, he said, because machinery has eliminated most of the need for heavy physical exertion. Here Mrs. Ida Pals, Milwaukee, Wise, was a guest recently of Mrs. Roy Lehman, 1800 Crest brook road. The two women were friends 30 years ago when both lived in Ladysmith, Wise, and had not seen one another in that many years. - First Class BEAUTICIAN Wanted Immediately MODERN BEAUTY SALON Church to Hold Supper, Program Thursday Night Butte Falls A family night potluck supper will be served at the Little Brown church, (Butte Falls Community Bible church) Thursday evening at 6 o'clock.
