His oldest son, Guy, 12, is leaving his Boy Scout manual; Son David, 9, his Cub Scout manual; son, Peter, 3, wants to leave his ' three - week - old St. Bernard puppy. Oboler hasn't figured how to do that. Mrs. Oboler hasn't disclosed what she picked for the capsule. Oboler, a playwright and au thor who has written extensive ly for radio and movies, expects to produce a Broadway play next fall. He is finishing the building of his 30-room, $250,000 Wright-designed home in the mountains 60 miles from Los An geles only because he believes the design is a work of art. He said it will go to the 'State of California when his sons die. "I'm dead serious about this capsule," he said. "I have noth ing to sell. I'm not in radio, pic tures, or television, and I have no scarlet to advertise. I think mankind will hold and that we're going to have a golden age if we can just keep our selves from committing interna tional suicide." A script which Oboler wrote as an explanatory note to go in the capsule begins: "To a family of the future: We, the family Oboler, living in the year 1955 (which means one thousand nine hundred and fifty five years after the birth of Christ, who some men believe is the son of the power who made us all, and who all men who know him believe was a great and good man) speak to you across the years. "We are putting these words deep into the center of a great rock, hopeful that you might learn a little of what we thought here in what may be, for you, a forgotten past ..." Central Poini OKs Plans, for Proposed Fire Hall Library Central Point The Central Point city council has approved plans and specifications for the proposed fire hall-library build ing, it was announced this week. A call for bids on the building is scheduled for tomorrow. Bids will be opened at 8 8 p.m. on April 25, and will be received by the city until that time. Vacation by the city of an alley has been requested by Reno Offutt, owner of the Ross motel. Offutt plans to enlarge his present rental space, and to move the present cafe, storage building and some cabins. Favors Vacation The council has Indicated that it favors the vacation requested by Offutt, and preliminary work on the plan was authorized. The council has directed Po lice Chief Oran Chastain strictly to enforce the city's dog control ordinance. The ordinance pro vides for a fine for owners of dogs creating a nuisance, and de fines such dogs as those which howl or bark, roam at large around the city, bite, or chase cars. City officials report that num erous complaints have been re ceived concerning dogs killing chickens, chasing cars, and run ning at large. Customer Checks Focus To Vanishing Point Chicago U.R) A custom er, "checking" the focus of a $300 camera, edged toward the door Wednesday and told the clerk: "I guess you have to be a lit tle farther back to use this pro perly." When the clerk turned around to get an accessory, the custom er kept right on edging and dis appeared with the camera. Pilot Halts Plane For Last-Minute Kiss Grand Rapids, Mich. (U.R) The pilot of a loaded plane slow ed his engines and ordered the loading ramp lowered Wednes day when he saw a woman rush ing toward the plane, waving her arms frantically. The woman rushed up the ramp to one of the' male passen gers and kissed him breathless ly. "My husband forgot to kiss me goodbye," she exclaimed. Missionary, Polio Victim, Recovering Portland U.R) David Hazen, 29-year-old missionary from The Dalles, Ore., who was stricken with polio while preaching among the natives of Sofru in French Morocco, arrived here fTuesday to finish his recovery. Hazen said that he became ill shortly after he had preached his first sermon in the Arabic language after two years of study. He said he intended to return to the Near Eastern coun try to spend the rest of his life preaching. Hazen, whose wife and threa small children were with him, was stricken with a combination of bulbar and spinal polio. He was treated at an Air Force hos pital in Morocco, and the serv icemen then helped finance his plane fare to the United States.
