Theyll Do It Every UA 'WtWE A,W Dofii-c rlCKin rears By SID HOLLINGSWORTH The problem of caring for the aged world war veterans, whose ranks are increasing with the years, has awakened the Veter ans Administration to a full scale study. A report on this study has come to the desk of Manager Ricker, showing "nearly 10 per cent of the VA's average daily hospital patient load consists of patients 65 or over, and in VA's domiciliaries, or homes the pro portion is much higher nearly 31 per cent. Certain VA hospitals have been designated as centers for treatment of patients suffering from chronic disabilities, it was announced. Special intermed iate beds, likewise, are being utilized in a new program of medical service "between that required by the more acutely ill, and that provided by a domic iliary home." Ray Williams doesn't pretend to be a "tough guy" but he knows a few who were really tough. In fact, he worked on a job and knew intimately the "Toughest Guy in the Air Force," General William "Jerry" Lee, of Texas. He happened to be re minded of his acquaintanceship in reading about General Lee in the Saturday Evening Post. I worked with Jerry Lee when he was a lineman for the Texas Power and Light company back m 1928. He was tough then and could deliver a terrif- fic wallop if the occasion called for it. "I've seen him bowl over a couple of guys who were mak ing things difficult for him," Ray declared. The Veterans Administration Employees association, formed about a year ago, is experienc ing growing pains. It has ex tended its interests from purely social activities to a program of station benefits and improve ments; the medical-dental erouD has joined as a unit; a small newspaper has been started and a $5 prize offered for the best name. Arrangements have also been made to exhibit at the Hob by Fair, April 17, without com peting for prizes.
