Language Development A demonstration of language de velopment, "the key to person ality growth." will be given by Dr. Loren Messenger, Southern Oregon college psychologist, on television Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The show is sponsored by the Jackson County Public Health association in cooperation with KBES-TV. The program resulted from parents' requests for more information on maturation and readiness for school. Three Ash land youngsters, aged five, seven and nine years, will appear on Sunday's show. Food-Rummage The Demo cratic party of Jackson county will sponsor a baked foods and rummage sale Monday, and Tuesday, March 28 and 29, at 106 North Ivy St., across from the Evelyn apartments. Dona tions for the sale will be re ceived by a committee at the location from 2 to 4 p.m., Sun day, March 27. Proceeds will be used toward defraying expenses of the annual Roosevelt Me morial dinner to be held April 23, at which Stephen A. Mitch ell, former Democratic national chairman, will speak. Brownie Visit Members of Brownie Troop 5 of Medford, led by Mrs. Vivian Spencer and Mrs. Martha Taylor, visited the Mail Tribune plant and offices Thursday afternoon. On the tour were Joan Spencer, Linda Tay lor, Doris Thomas, Judy Thomas, Becky Williams, Mar jorie North, Raylene Viers, Jackie Neal and Gail Stone. Injured Vanca Russell, 12, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vance Russell, route 1, box 167B, Cen tral Point, was admitted about 8 p.m., Thursday to the Commu nity hospital. She suffered an in jury to her abdomen while play ing ball, according to a report of the accident. Her condition is listed as "good." Cars Collide Three cars were involved in an automobile acci dent at about 12:30 p.m. yester day in front of 820 South Cen tral ave., according to city po lice. Drivers of the vehicles were Lynn C. Butterfield, 1010 Stewart ave.; Eugene M. Mosser, 15 North Peach st., and James W. Ambler, 23 North Orange st. There were no citations, and no injuries were listed. News of Birth A son was born Thursday, March 24, at Portland to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gray. Gray is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gray, also now of Portland, and formerly of the valley. They lived both at Gold Hill and at Prospect. Charles Kell of Gold Hill is great-grand father of the infant, which is his first great-grandchild. Mrs. Lau- rene Kell, 852 Palm st., is a great-aunt of the child. Joe Gray attended Prospect schools. Toscanini Observes 88th Year of Birth New York (U.R) -Arturo Toscanini celebrated his 88th i birthday today without fuss and fanfare because he doesn't want any anniversary fireworks until 1957. He observed the event at Villa Pauline in suburban Riverdale. The house, like Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth, has been re garded by many as a symbol of the maestro' s health and vitality. Hospitalized A man tenta tively identified as John Pinker, 68, of 712 Palm st., collapsed at a downtown theater last night, and was taken to Community hospital by Medford Ambulance service. He was thought to be suffering from a heart attack, and was still unconscious this morning. Young Adults A meeting of the Medford Young Adult group will be held Sunday, March 27, at 8 p.m., at the First Methodist church. A panel group from the Southern Oregon college will discuss the South Pacific and its problems. All young persons in cluding those recently gradu ated from high schools are in vited. Food Sale Dorcas Welfare society of Eagle Point, a depart ment of the Eagle Point Seventh Day Adventist church, will spon sor a food, fancy work and sing ing canary sale beginning at 10 a.m., Monday, March 28, at Walt's Radio and Electric shop, 409 East Man st. Proceeds from the sale wll be used for welfare work and for a church building fund. Leaves Catch Fire An accu mulation of dry leaves on the roof caught fire from an over heated flue at the Frank Benzer home, 16 Western ave., yester day about 5 p.m., but firemen from the west side station, who were called, said that no dam age resulted. The rural pumper responded to another flue fire alarm about 10 p.m. going to the Thomas Johnson residence, 1478 Morrow rd. Firemen said that there was no damage. a Local CAP Cadets Officers, To Visit Reno Conference By 1ST LT. ELMER LUSCHEN CAP Information Officer Senior members of the Med ford squadron of the Civil Air Patrol will attend a regional conference in Reno, Nev., on Sat urday and Sunday, March 26 and 27. The squadron will be repre sented at the regional confer ence by the largest group from any squadron in the state of Ore gon. CAP members from Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon. Washington, California, and Nevada units will discuss all phases of the CAP training program. Individual conferences will be conducted by members of the national staff from Washington, D. C, with Maj. Gen. Lucas V. Beau, USAF, the principal guest speaker. Wing 6taff members from the various states will also attend. Many To Attend The local group will include Capt. Marcella Luschen, com manding officer; First Lt. Bette Miller, coordinator of women's affairs; WO Victor David, ex ecutive officer; WO Donald Wilson, engineering officer; sen ior member-Johnny Weber, as sistant communications officer; and senior members Ellis Capps, Duard Conway, and Dick Ran dall. The group will attend meet ings Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning on as many phases of CAP training as pos sible. . The group will be flown to Reno and back by a United States Air Force plane, one of the C-46s used in the air search and rescue work. The flight will be another part of the CAP training program with members assisting the plane crew wherev er possible. ' Neevel Funeral af Grants Pass Saturday Gold rfill Funeral services for fsaac George Neevel, 76, jus tice of the peace here for 12 years who died Wednesday, will be held at Hull and Hull funeral home in Grants Pass Saturday at 11 a.m. He was born in Alto, Wis., on March 18. 1879, and was mar ried to Miss Anna Louise Top at Bellingham, Wash., in June, 1919. He lived in the vicinity of Rogue River from 1834 to 1937, when he moved to Gold Hill, where he had made his home since. Survivors include a son Ger rit Top; a daughter, Mrs. George Milholland, Washington, D.C.; a sister, Jane Neevel Guernsey, Portland; a brother, George, Lynden, Wash.; two grand daughters and several nieces and nephews.
