Phone K.F. 3974 Strategy Calls for It can be said on good author ity that some of the responsible Democratic leaders in Congress believe that, as of now, Mr. Ei senhower looks almost unbeat able in 1956 if he seeks a second term. Time will tell whether the situation changes in the next 19 months. Confident of Congress In contrast to this bearishness about their presidential chances, the Democrats are confident they can retain control of Congress, at least the Senate. Unlike many Republicans and neutral observers, a number of Democrats are by no means con vinced that Mr. Eisenhower will take a second nomination. The Democratic strategy in Congress almost seems to rest on that assumption. A more import ant reason for kid-glove treat ment of Mr. Eisenhower, how ever, is the belief that any other policy now would backfire by creating public resentment. Oregon. Dated and first published this 8th day of March. 1955. DOROTHY F. MeOUAT, Administratrix. ID Cabinet when the firing at Mr. Eisenhow er can be expected, one Demo cratic leader replied: "The Republicans didn't try to subopena Harry Truman; they settled for Harry Vaughan." This was a reference to Maj. Gen. Harry H. Vaughan, Presi dent Truman's friend and mili tary aide and a frequent target for Republican political bar rages. Walk Softly For reasons like these, the Democrats prefer to ignore or tip their hats to M. Eisenhower and to throw their punches at Secre tary of Agriculture Ezra T. Ben son, Secretary of Treasury Geor ge M. Humphrey and others. Some real resentment is build ing now against Secretary of State John Foster Dulles for pub lishing the Yalta documents last week only two days after the State Department said matters of security and relations with other countries forbade their re lease. To gome Democrats, Dulles'1 action was a severe blow at bi partisanship in foreign policy. With Democrats now controlling Congress, they felt that he had slapped the party on which he must rely for congressional sup port of administration policy. Jetty Improvements On Coquille Pending Bandon (U.R) Reports re ceived here from the U.S. Army engineers indicate that dredging operations and improvements in the north jetty are in store for the mouth of the Coquille river this summer. Some S200.000 will be spent on jetty repair and another $60, 000 to keep the channel at a 13 foot depth as required by an act of congress. Port Manager J. E. Walstrom said he had also asked that the depth of the channel be restor ed to 13 feet and the north jet ty extended 1000 feet. Public hearings and an act of congress would be required to obtain these two improvements. Dredging is scheduled to be gin in June. Court Records MARRIAGE LICENSE APPLICATIONS Robert O.
