Portlander Selected Oregon Mother of '55 Portland OJ.R) Mrs. Flor ence Naomi Brinks of Portland was named today as Oregon's Mother for 1955. Mrs. Brinks, widow of Rev. James Brinks, was selected from among nine finalists here. She has nine children ranging in age from 15 to 30. The Portland widow was born in Olathe, Kan., the second child of a railroad engineer. She will represent Oregon in the national American Mother competition in May, according to Mrs. H. E. Woodward, chair man of the mother selection committee. Weekly Disease List Rises to 70 Cases The number of communicable disease cases reported to the pub lic health department last week rose to 70, the largest number this year. Chicken pox, which has led the list of cases for many weeks, did so again, with a total of 28, with 24 of them in Medford. Measles were second, with 24 cases, more than half of them in Medford. And so I contend that, re gardless of what some physician Rogue River Church Plans To Buy New Lot Rogue River Hope Presby terian church has obtained an option to purchase a lot with 200 feet fronting on Oak st. The lot is located directly behind the church building. The land is now owned by Mrs. Elizabeth Hatch, Rogue Riv-1 er. Plans call for use of. the land for construction of a new church building. It is hoped that con struction of the new buildine will be possible within the next few years. Need for the new building has been caused, in part, by a large increase in church mem bership during the past few years. Autopsy Scheduled In The Dalles Death The Dalles (U.R) An autopsy will be performed by the state crime laboratory to determine the cause of death of Francis Andrew De Heck, 50, The Dalles, whose body was found beside a railroad undercrossing east of here yesterday. Wasco County Coroner Ken neth Libby said a preliminay ex amination showed heavy bruises about the man's head and body. Libby said De Heck may have been dead since Saturday.
