Dick Wayburn rolled grandly up to the school in a chariot pulled by Jerry Close, the two students having rigged up the vehicle, complete with rubber tires and silver paint. By OLIVE STARCHER The recent Ides of March banquet given by Latin classes of Medford Senior High school proved that the study of Latin can have its lighter moments. The students wore Roman-style clothing, the banquet was eaten without benefit of silverware and in lieu of napkins, "slaves" from junior high school offered basins of water and tow els. The program was printed in Latin, and a prayer, the flag salute and songs were in Latin. . " Fierce dogs guarded Roman doors, and here Timothy Hillerman holds the "dog" (American variety) which was chained to the cafeteria door during the school banquet. Jiifj?! iVffi y Gladys Beddoe was one of the "slaves" from junior high school whc served the banquet and here she holds a basin (it was painted gold) for the use of Greg Milnes (at left) and Bob Bright, garbed as senators. The two gave readings from "Julius Caesar." Two Roman girls, Sylvia McCulloch (at left) and Gloria Haggard, examine exhibit of books of interest to students of Latin which was part of banquet atmosphere. Slaves Jim Corum (at left) and his twin brother, Dick, assisted by Tom Uridel, prepared big jugs of soft drinks which they served to accompany the pork chops, vegetables, fruits and sweets which made up the banquet menu. A unit of the Junior Classical league for Medford Senior High school was formally instituted during the evening when Mrs. Maxine Smith, Latin teacher, presented a charter to a group of students. Pictured (left to right) are Mrs. Smith, Ramona Baugh, scriba; Janet Perry, consul; Marilyn Olson, Vicki Robertson, Sue Donna Doolen, Georgia Hicks and Billy Frake. The last five, all straight A students, arc the charter members. Girls taking part were (left to right, standing) Jane Bash, Janet Jamison, Marilyn Olson, Ramona Baugh, Carol Denman, Janet Perry and Vicki Robertspn; and Maralee Chisholm (kneeling at left) and Shirley Stafford. Many girls dyed curls for the evening and all wore large earrings and colorful beads with robes.
