Radioactive Rain
Blamed on Russia
Tokyo (U.R) A, Japanese ;
scientist reported today that ra-.
dioactive rain which fell in
Japan last fall resulted from
Russian atomic tests held in Si-,
beria at a site near Japan. 1
Dr. Haruo Miyake of the;
Weather Research .Institute said '
weather observation data prov-'
ed the radioactive rain came
from two tests held in mid-Sep-tember
and late October.
He said the rain from Sept.
18-19 in Northern Japan con
tained radioactivity up to 100,
000 clicks a minute per liter. '
At the time a typhoon moved
into the ocean and a cold air
layer moved across Japan from
the north. Radioactivity de
creased as a result of another
typhoon, Miyake said, but in
creased again after the typhoon
passed.
