Red Raiders Defeat OTI By UNITED PRESS ; Eastern Oregon again post poned Portland State's title clinching in the Oregon Colle giate Conference basketball race with a 96-87 victory at La Grande last night. The victory still leaves EOCE a mathematical chance to tie for first place. Southern Oregon, meanwhile, kept right "on the heels of East ern Oregon winding up OCC play with a 69-59 win over Ore gon Tech. Either SOCE or EOCE will gain a berth in the regional NAIA playoffs. SOCE has com pleted its conference season with a 10-6 .mark, while EOCE has two left to play. Larry Pryse led Eastern Ore gon last night with 19 points, while Paul Poetsch had 28 for Portland State. Mexicans Defeat Portland Pilots Mexico City (U.R) - A red- hot Mexican All Star quintet rallied back in the second half to down the towering Portland University team, 78-66, - before . some 3,500 hysterical basketball fans at the National auditorium here last night. Jack Gordon, the university's athletic publicity director, said Idaho State College, Rocky Mountain conference , champion, also "had accepted an at-large berth that would match the two schools in a playoff opener. Gordon said officials of Seattle University and ISC would con fer by long-distance telephone to set a site and date for the game. The contest would be played March 7 or 8. The winner would advance to the western regional playoffs, to be played March 11-12 at Cor vallis . Knicks, Celtics Keep Up Struggle By UNITED PRESS The New York Knicks and Boston Celtics, 'only a half -game apart in their red-hot battle for second place in the Eastern divi sion of the National Basketball association after hair-raising vic tories, continue their struggle on foreign courts tonight. The Celtics gained a tempo rary tie for the position by beat ing the Syracuse Nationals, 97- 95, on Bob Cousey's basket in the first game of a twin bill at Madison Square Garden Tuesday night, but the Knicks went ahead again by nipping Phila delphia, 103-102, in the second game. Pass high players, Ov eren was on Klamath Falls' state tourney team in 1951. Prehm, assistant varsity hoop coach at Grants Pass, played college ball at Washington State. Endicott played at Prineville. Healer Paces Heater led the Plywoods to a play-off victory over Rogue River in the GP loop on Mon day, scoring 27 points. He is around 6-5 and Prehmr who's been on the Plywood roster, just in case, is 6-6. McLean, ex-Southern Oregon college, who is a reserve player, has also recruited a couple of other top players for the Cab bie tussle. These are Don Reese, from Camp's Electric, and Tink er Hatfield, from Rogue River. Hatfield is the GP loop's lead ing scorer while Reese, a "late starter, has had the best aver age, around 25 points per game.
