Wall Ignites Firemen said that an overheated flue caused the wall behind a stove to ignite about 6:20 a.m. today at the Noel Benney home, 1414 South Stage rd. The occupant had extin- uished the blaze before firemen arrived. A flue fire was reported about 12:20 p.m. yesterday at the Leo Cook residence, 815 Narregan st. Jailed were Mack Elmer Cox, 32, and Prentice Kenneth Cox, 29, both transients. Police said they would be held in custody, pending checking their records. Buy Property Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Carroll, formerly of Pros pect, have purchased the Claude Davis property at 1123 East Main st. The Davises for some time have lived at Coos Bay. Emma Wilma Ault, 37, Portland, will appear at a trial at 10 a.m. on Feb. 28. She posted $255 bail. Elmer William Summers, 44, Prospect, will ap pear on Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. He was jailed in lieu of bail. Hanscom, an airman second class in the Air Force, is stationed at Chambley Air Force base in France. He is a repair and reclamation man. Hanscom arrived in France in mid-December. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Irving J. Hanscom, Phoenix, and attended Phoenix schools. Before entering the service Air man Hanscom was employed by Crystal Springs orchard. Accident Two vehicles were involved in an accident at the intersection of South Central ave. and 12th st. at 8:15 p.m. yesterday, according to city po lice. Man Held Sheriff Howard Gault reported today that Charles Quackenbush, 42, for merly living on an Ashland ru ral route, had been arrested by the sheriff's office at Stockton, Calif., on a warrant charging him with a sex crime in Jack son county. Extradition proceed ings are now underway to return the man here, Gault said. State To Accept Bids On Applegate Bridges The state highway commission will accept bids in Portland on March 2 for construction of two reinforced concrete bridges on the Upper Applegate rd., south of Ruch, it was announced today. . One of the bridges will be over the Little Applegate river, and the other will be over Star gulch. Both will replace obso lete timber structures. They are scheduled for completion by September of this year. Permits Required for Trash, Rubbish Fires City firemen today reminded residents that permits are re quired for trash or rubbish fires within the city limits. They also stressed that trash fires are not allowed on streets, in alleys or after dark. Permission may be obtained by telephoning 2-2790. State Income Tax Men Slate County Visits Representatives of the income tax division of the Oregon State Tax commission will be in this area during late March . and early April to aid local residents in preparation of their income tax forms, it was announced to day. Their headquarters while, in Medford will be the Jackson county courthouse. They will be here on March 10 and 11; March 14 through 18; April 4 through 8, and April 11 through 15, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. On March 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., they will be at the admin istration building at the veterans domiciliary center at Camp White.
