Indonesian To Speak For Conference Ashland Abdoel Hamid, con sul for the Republic of Indonesia with headquarters in San Fran cisco, will be principal speaker ior the annual conference, for young adults at Southern Oregon college March 26. Mr. Hamid's appearance is in keeping with the emphasis this year of the conference on the matter of building international understanding, according to Mrs. Mabel W. Winston, chairman of the conference which is jointly sponsored by the American As sociation of University Women and Rotary clubs. Mr. Hamid is a native of Pa dang, Sumatra, Indonesia. His law studies in Djakarta, Java (capital of Indonesia) were inter rupted during the Japanese occu pation. He participated actively in the struggle against the Dutch in the idependence movement. The consul worked with the Department of Justice for some time and in April, 1950, shortly after the transfer of severeignty, joined the Indonesian foreign service. In August, 1950, he came to the United States as a student of the Foreign Service institute of the Department of State, Washington, D. C. He worked later as section chief of United Nations affairs in the political section of the Ministry of For eign Affairs for his own nation. Mr. Hamid arrived in. San Francisco in September, 1952, to organize an Indonesian consulate there. As compared to his first visit to the United States, Mr. Hamid now notes an increased interest in his part of the world among the American people, and he hopes to further stimulate this interest by speaking before vari ous community and world affairs organizations. , Date Announced By Nevita Club For Style Show Plans for the .annual style show was made at a meeting of Nevita Social club held Monday evening at the home, of Mrs. , George E. Brownell, 1102 North Riverside avenue. The show will be held Friday, April 29, at the American Legion hall in Central Point. . Mrs. Melvin McGrew, presi dent, conducted the meeting. A social hour followed the business meeting, with "games and refreshments. Decorations cwere in the valentine theme, and members were presented comic valentines. Mrs. Turn quist was cohostess.' First meeting of the new group was held February 11 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Gibson, Barnett road, with 14 potential members present. It is stated that the purpose, of the club is to have a group which will ride, learn horsemanship, sportsmanship and hold play days under the leadership and supervision of a group of adults, young people between the ages of 11 and 18. The young people must own their own horses, and must not belong to other riding associations in 'the county. A board of directors will be made up of five adults and an adult supervisor elected by the young people from the parents of members. Otherwise the club will be self-governed and the young people will elect officers and a "captain of the month. Officers elected were Gayle Prentice, president; El Rita Gabie, secretary-treasurer. Ten tatively-named to the board of directors were Mr. and Mrs. Wal ter Young, Mrs. C. W. Lickess, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Prentice, Mrs. C. L. Gabie and Mrs. D. C. Bates. Mrs. Floyd Gibson was elected supervisor. Indian journal ist and lecturer, will make a series of appearances before Southern' Oregon audiences the first week in March, it was an nounced today by Robert J. Grid ley, state chairman of the speak ers bureau for the Oregon United Nations association. ' The tour, co-sponsored by the Institute ; of - International Af fairs of the General Extension division, Oregon - State System of Higher Education, will in clude Medford, Ashland, Grants Pass and Klamath Falls. Mr. Suri, from a rich back ground, of experience as editor and : contributor to various In dian, newspapers, as UN press correspondent, and as a staff member of the philosophy de partment . at Northwestern Uni versity, will interpret the UN as seen by a citizen of India and will detail some of the develop ments in his country since its freedom. He is scheduled to speak first to the Medford , Rotary club, Tuesday, March 1, after the club's regular noon luncheon at the Jackson hotel. The same evening he will appear before the Medford chapter of the UN association at the YMCA. The following day, Wednes day, March 2, at 10 a.m., Mr. Suri will address the students at Southern Oregon college of Edu cation at Ashland. He is then scheduled to drive to Grants Pass to appear before the Grants Pass Rotary club luncheon. On Thursday, March 3, , he will speak to the Klamath Falls Ki wanis club at the Willard hotel, repeating his talk the following noon, March 4, to the Rotary club. - The tour is part of a continu ing educational service in inter national affairs and on the UN, conducted by the Oregon UN Association and the General Ex tension Division. Mr. Suri has made several tours across the country, and presently resides in San Francisco. Camp Fire Girls, Hold Ceremonial Talent Several members of the Talent Camp Fire Girls were awarded ranks during a ceremonial held - Wednesday at the City hall. Those who received trail seekers ranks were Joyce Crit ten, April Burnette and Connie Unruh. Wood Gatherers ranks were given to Linda Hamilton and Norma , Driver. Receiving fire makers ranks were Patty Childers, Doris Bench, Betty Bergren and Marlys Suksdorf. Two eirls also received gowns in a gowning ceremony conduct ed by Mae Lowe. They . were Linda Hamilton and April Bur nette. The hall was decorated with evergreen boughs and candles lighted a "trail," which indicat ed the trail of seven crafts of the group. Andren led community singing accompanied by Bill McKinley and Ralph Lue spoke regarding the Scot tish Rite groups. Mrs. Lue also spoke concerning the organiza tion and activities of the wo men's club, of which she is pres ident. Mrs. Clay M. Lee was the gen eral chairman assisted by the committee composed of Mrs. Ro bert Simpson, Mrs. Mary M. Grant, Mrs. Morris Boughner and Mrs. . Hazel Dickson. Bridge and canasta were di versions of the evening, the high prize for canasta going to Mrs. Edwin Andren and the low prize to Mrs. Minnie Cummings. Bridge prizes were won by Mrs. H. C. Goldsmith, high score, and Mrs. Evelyn Gatten, low score. Albert Lenox also won a prize during the evening. In keeping with the theme the rooms and tables were dec orated with valentine decora tions in red and silver. Royal Visitor Now in Kingston Kingston, Jamaica (U.R) Princess Margaret arrives here today aboard the royal yacht Britannia on her tour of the Brit ish West Indies. The three-day voyage from St. Kitts in the Leeward islands gave the Princess the first real chance to relax since she began her goodwill visit to the British Caribbean possessions early this month.
