Elk City Wafer District Seeking Aid on Main Coast Central Point The city council has been requested by 0 representatives of the Elk City Water district to begin action on financing of a portion of the proposed trunk water main from Medford to Central Point. .The proposed line, which . would guarantee the city a flow of 1,000 gallons a minute and ; complete a circular system back to Medford, would cost the city an estimated $39,746, or 36 per cent of the total cost. City Attorney B. Kent Black- hurst will investigate the legality of paying for a share of the pipeline. The proposed main would parallel Highway north of Medford. It would in clude a main of 20 inches near Medford, to 10 inches at. the Cen tral Point city limits. Action Postponed v The council tabled any action on a bond issue to pay for a share of the construction until the next meeting. A special elec tion would be required to ap prove bond money. A spokes man reported that the Elk dis trict plans to finance the cost of the" main, with later reim bursement by the city for its share. Attorney James McGoodwin and Don Elliott represented the district. Architect Robert Keeney preS' ented final fire hall-library plans to the council. Final action will await sale of the $20,000 . in bonds to finance construction, Are ordinance was passed issuing ctbe bonds and providing for the sale of them. Discuss Signals A discussion was held on ob taining railroad signals at the Pine st. crossing. A committee composed of various groups of citizens is being organized to ob tain the signals. A recent log ging truck accident there is one of the factors prompting the re quest. Ira Brock, street and water department employee, reported to the council on a recent trip to Silverton where he inspected a used street sweeper and ob tained photographs of it to show the council. The council author! zed $650 to be used to bid on the sweeper. Thursday. Mr. and Mrs; Eisenhower and her mother, Mrs. Elvira Doud, were invited to be guests at the 600-acre south Georgia planta tion of treasury Secretary George M. Humphrey. Humphrey and his wife were to make the trip in the presi dential plane, the Columbine. The entire party is scheduled to fly back to Washington late Sunday afternoon.
