TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Lincoln PTA Plans Meeting; v Students on TV The February meeting of Lin coln Parent-Teacher association will be "Dad's TJight," with hus bands of the officers taking their wives places on the executive staff. The meeting will be held Tuesday, February 8, at 8 pjn., and teachers will - be in their rooms from 7:30. p.m. to coun sel with parents on their ; chil dren's problems. The program will feature Founder's day and the history of the parent-teacher movement. Past presidents of Lincoln PTA are invited to attend the meet ing. - - The meeting will be held in the school cafeteria," and refresh ments will be served by the fathers. - v , , The fifih and sixth grade chorus of Lincoln school, and . small groups . of the third and fourth grades, will present a program featuring patriotic and valentine music over KBES-TV Wednesday, February 9, from .4:30 until 5:00 p.m.. This is one of a series of programs being presented by the vocal depart ments of Medf ord elementary own - , The 70-voice chorus, directed by Mrs. Hazeldean Hohensee, will sing several songs about Lincoln and Washington from the school song books. Third graders directed by Mrs. Yvonne Dug an will present "Events in the Life of Lincoln." Mrs. Ethel Chastain's class will do a flag drill. Each year the third graders learn about Wash ington' and Lincoln during their ( social studies classes, reading A listening to stories pertaining to them. ' ' Miss Anna Laura Honts fourth graders will present a two-scene sk.it telling the story of George "Washington's visit to ask Betsy Ross to make the first stars nd stripes' flag. The children will all be in costumes complete with wigs, made by their par- - ems. The chorus will sing a group 'of songs in salute to the flag. I A group of valentine songs will be presented by the chorus dressed in valentine costumes. As a finale the group will sing "To Thee, O Country." A building for the local corps was erected by: the Medford Moose lodge and presented to the city of Medford February 4, 1954. Honored at the dance will be members of the Moose who have served as sky watchers through out the past year. . . . . About 20,000 automobiles, manned by more than ' 40,000 members of the Moose through out the entire country, served as "protectors" ' during the re cent "Mother's March on Polio." ... The Moose 'protectors toured the community's streets, and ave nues, affording a feeling of se curity to' the mothers as they traveled from door to door - so liciting funds for the March of Dimes campaign . sponsored by the National ' Foundation for In fantile Paralysis. Weis, national director of civic ' affairs for the Moose fraternity. The Moose protectors also offered their services to transport ithe mothers to and from collection centers, he said. - Medford lodge offered its services ,in this operation on Monday night here. ' Guild Announces Symposium Plans A , symposium is planned for a -meeting of Westminster guild to be held Monday,. February 7, in the Fireplace room of First Presbyterian church. , ' ; ; . Luncheon was served to 18 members and one guest by Mrs. Harry Nicholson, Mrs. ; Harry Casebier and Mrs. Oscar Hanson. Monroes Return . From Plane Trip" Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Monroe, 4748 South Pacific highway, re turned last j week from a plane trip which they began before Thanksgiving day. They visited first in Portland from there went to Chicago, 111. 'Later they went to Topeka and Liberal, Kan., the latter being Mrs. Mon roe's former home.' They visited at Amarillo, Tex., where Mrs. Monroe formerly taught, and also spent some time in New Mexico. --The couple re turned . by way of : Colorado Springs, and Denver, Colo. . Family Members Attend Reunion Talent P. J. McAbee with his nephew, Don Montgomery,. Tal ent,, and niece, Mrs; Naomi Hunt er, Ashland, recently returned from a family reunion and birth day celebration in honor of Mr. McAbee's mother, Mrs. J. P. McAbee, Roby, Tex. . The honored guest, known as "Grandma Mac," formerly lived in the Rogue valley. She was 88 years old January 22. Among the 44 relatives and friends who attended the' birthday dinner were her six daughters and members of their- families and her son of Talent. Also present were Mr. . and Mrs. Brooks Montgomery, Phoenix. A salad luncheon will be served at 12:30 p.m. Phoenix Women To Meet Sunday; Plan New Group : Phoenix A' meeting of the women of Phoenix Presbyterian church will be held Sunday at the church following the morn ing service. The meeting, origin ally set for last Sunday, will be to elect officers for Women's association which is being formed. . A nominating . committee, composed of Mrs. Rex Nicode mus, Mrs. Jim Gardner and Mrs. J. H. Webster, will report. All women of the church are asked to attend this meeting. - Announcement has been made of a new schedule and plans for after-church coffee hours. The group will meet at the home of Miss Shelia Thornm- on Sunday, February 6, in the evening and a toboggan party is planned for" February 13. Last Sunday morning several of the young people participated in the church service. Raydene Chisum was organist, Richard James conducted the responsive reading and Robert Webster the scripture reading. James Korth announced the hymns. Kay Nico demus, ; Sheila Thompson, Bar bara Hoey, Miss Chisum, Nancy Hammers, Kay Fisher and San dra Owens sang. Randall Stoth ers and Lyle Johnston ushered. The discussion group met at the home of Mr. and .Mrs. Walter Bolz last Sunday, with 19 at tending. Ref reshmentfe,. served by the hostess, were followed by devotions led by Mrs. C. E. Stothers. Mrs. Floyd Schmelzer led discussion on how Sunday schooL could be improved. The February meeting ol the group will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Owens. The girls' handicraft class met Tuesday. Attending were 17 girls and their leaders, Mrs. Wal ter Bolz, Mrs. Carl Kliever, Mrs. George Carpenter, Mrs. J. H. Webtser and Mrs. Schmelzer. A group of women meets each Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m. at' the home of Mrs. Emma Keith, 302 Fourth street, for Bible study and prayer.
