Dinner Planned t By Two Groups c 'Members of Rogue JEUver chap ter, National Secretaries Associ ation, , have been invited to at ' tend a joint dinner meeting with National Office Management as sociation at 6:30 p.m., Monday, January 24 at the Medf ord hoteL With Mrs. Darlyne Rudd as general chairman, plans for the first state meeting of the secre taries association were discussed at a - business meeting held Thursday at 24 South Grape street The Oregon state meeting will be held here cn March 18 - and 19, with headquarters at the Medford HoteL ' : Committee chairmen named to assist Mrs. Rudd are Mrs. Kath ryn Thomas, ' hospitality; Mrs. Marina Gates, entertainment; Mrs. Katherine Jennings, publi city; Mrs. Helen Apple, transpor tation; Ms. Kay Jandreau, regis tration; Mrs. Marion Langley, res ervations: Mrs. Wilda Fabrick, decorations; Mist Gladys Goetz, table favors; and Mrs. Virginia Schuster, finance. . Movies will be shown during the evening for the children., "f-- b' ' J Washington PTA Announces: Dinner ' Washington School Parent Teacher association meeting has been - scheduled ' for : Thursday, January 27, at 6:30 p. m. in the school cafeteria, with "Dad's Night" is the theme. The cafe teria will be open at 6, according to Mrs. Harold Hubler, unit pres ident, to receive the food, and each family is asked to take its own table service. The first week passed quick ly and- quietly. Numerous rou tine I bills were introduced .' in both Houses, but as yet no. de bates and few committee meet ings due to the lack of material to work on and all committees are as yet not complete.. ; . Our mail has been light and very few : letters required : an swers, for which I was grateful, as typing is still a chore for me. On 'Wednesday, Mrs. Edward A. Geary, wife of the speaker of the House, had the first of a series of small luncheons for the representative's wives and. I was asked. There were eight of us with Mrs. Geary. We ate in the :. coffee shop in the - State House, where the food is excep tionally good. It was fun to meet the other , girls and learn about them- and their husbands. Mrs, Geary is a lovely, white-haired woman very, gracious and. un assuming. We were excused on Friday and went home oyer the week-end. They say it's -the last long week-end we can expect. January 17 i' This week is starting out at a brisker pace than last week. Numerous bills have been intro duced in both Houses.- The highways '. committee' and Al's most important, has had a meet ing and several are scheduled. There's a delegation of senators and representatives' from Mon tana .here to study . Oregon's truck taxes and highways, which calls for more meetings. - ' ) '. ' : ' They were - presented to the House yesterday "during the morning session. ' . ; ' ? It's always impressive when we have guests and dignitaries . vis it the House. Two or more senior members are asked .to escort 1hem to the front of the House for introductions which are made by "the speaker of, the house, Representative Geary, , and it's very formal. Al says that in the highway committee, numerous routine bills are under consider ation; However, as yet there are none that are controversial. -Tuesday revening. Governor and Mrs. Patterson, all state of ficers and their, wives, and , leg islators Ofrom both Houses . and their - wives were . the dinner guests of Sweet. Home and East Linn County Chamber of Com merce.; During , introductions. Al got v promoted we were intro duced as Senator and Mrs. Lit trelL 'O. Meredith Wilson, presi dent ; of the : University of Ore gon was the speaker. Many com plained of tiie hour's drive to Sweet Home, but for us it was fun, because. Peg and Lee Bown took us and we had a fine time reminiscing about . the old days in Medford, and talking of Salem now, mutual friends, etc. - Peg and Esther (Mrs. V. W.) Ham mond are sisters' I have several Invitations to teas and coffees for this and next week, too. Tomorrow eve we meet the' Oregon Farm Bureau Federation.".,.:"'' ::',r7A Al meets with' Mr. Mann Rep resentative E. H. Mann) and Phil (Senator Lowry) frequently. We see the Lowrys ; often Shirley and I get together for a chat and lunch. We have been oyer to admire - their ! house and they have - been here to admire- ours. Both houses are comfortable and are much nicer, than we had ex pected to obtain while we were in Salem. . ? Al is enjoying himself wholly and completely. He meets new and interesting men every day. Everyone is very : friendly ' and is always offering to help the. "freshmen.". Living away from the hotel as we do, we have met very .few. lobbyists. Al comes down around 8 a. m. and I get here just before the bell rings at 9:45, and have to run to get here then. I Miss . Eula Wintermote gave the lesson concerning weight and health and Mrs. Ralph Mer- ritt, program, chairman, had charge of the discussion on plans for the year. Miss Jean Brooks, a county home extension-agent, attended the meeting. Another visitor was Mrs. Rodney Kidd.
