Nevertheless a good many peo
ple, are apt to"
think there
must be some
truth in my
teachings if I
keep repeat
ing things here
that no quali
fied physician
openly denies.
There are
good, reasons
Dr. Brady ... why real doc
tors nesitate to answer in print
teachings' of mine which they
believe are wrong. In the first
place it imperils a physician's
standing in the profession and in
the community to break into
print even to chastise a so-and-so.
In the next place, there is, after
all, some foundation in fact- for
what I teach say about the
treatment of hernia and every
doctor knows it.
. Not more than 25 years ago I
repeatedly asserted in this col
umn that radical surgery was the
only cure, for hernia (otherwise
called rupture or breach). That
was what I had been taught in
medical - school, indeed it was
taught in all medical schools.
But,, as every honest doctor
must admit, not everything
taught in medical schools 25 or
50 years ago were so.'The "vast
strides", of, medicine were not
made by marking time. r

In a discussion of the relation
ship between law enforcement
agencies and the press, Allen
told members of the association
that impartial enforcement is
the most important of all police
functions. The police and the
press have a common service to
the citizenry, he said. .
Allen outlined freedom of the
press guarantees in the national
and state constitutions and dis
cussed policies on news about
juvenille delinquency. . ',

for police concerning press re
leases, accuracy, . and friendly
relations between news gather
ing medias and law enforcement

prices last November showed
a two per . cent gain over No
vember, 1953, the Agriculture
department has reported. "
A report on farm real estate
values, said price gains regis
tered 'tin; the Midwestern farm
belt offset moderate declines in
most other states. --
Indiana and Illinois showed
the largest increases with land
values in each up six per cent
from November, 1953.

tain and Pacific Coast regions,
where the November land prices
average 15 per cent lower than
the post-Korea boom.

While , I was mulling the situa
tion in my uneasy mind I learned
of some experimental investiga
tion a young doctor an hour
from home was conducting, per
taining to the effects of various
chemical solutions on animal
tissues. I followed his work until
he determined precisely what
formula to use for injection (am
bulatory) treatment of hernia,
I watched him and later other
doctors administering the treat
ment, and . observed the effects
on their patients.
Ultimately I plunked for am
bulatory, office, injection treat
ment of - hernia. :
For doing so I was branded by
my good colleagues the poor
