Two dogs were reported poi
oned in Medford yesterday and
today, according to city police
records.
A ' dog owned by - Wendell

ave., was expected to live after
being treated by a veterinarian
yesterday, police said.
Francis A. Shreeve, 736 Oak

morning that someone had
poisoned her dog. No other de

Records Shattered
Roseburg (U.R) -All previous
records, on value and volume
of timber sold and' cut were
broken in the Umpqua national
forest in 1954, according to a
summary from the Roseburg of
fice. ' "

feet, valued at $3,614,323 was
sold. The volume cut was 243,
500,000 board feet worth $1,

over the 180,000,000 feet cut in

Dropping Department

troduced a bill in the House to
abolish the State Department of
Finance and Administration. -
The department, which func
tions under the direction of the
governor, was - cheated in 1951
and given broad powers in fis
cal and budgetary fields.-
Co-sponsor of the measure is
Rep. F. H. Dammasch, Portland
Republican, who said his pur
pose : in signing Pearson's bill
was simply to bring the contro
versy over the department into
the open.
In addition to preparing the
governor's budget, . the depart
ment is responsible for operation
of a state motor vehicle pool,
maintains inter-agency service,
controls state property, author
izes travel and travel expenses
of state employees, administers
accounting systems of the state
agencies, and controls all state
purchasing. -
Chickenpox, Pneumonia
Cases Up in County
. The number of cases of. chick
enpox and pneumonia in the
county rose last week, bringing
the total number of commun
icable diseases reported to the
county health office to 30.
Chickenpox cases totaled 13,
scattered throughout the coun
ty, and there were 8 pneumonia
cases, five of them in Ashland.
Other disease cases listed , in
cluded three of scarlet fever,
and single, cases of infectious
hepatitis, infectious mononcule
osis, strep throat, inflenza, ger
man'measles and influenzal type
meningitis. ; -

Suspect Arrested

stabbing to death a California
woman for whose" slaying he was

wanted list.
The suspect, Otto Austin Loel,
Waverly, O., agreed to Waive
extradition and was placed un
der $50,000 bond yesterday aft
ernoon at an arraignment.
A drunken spree under an as
sumed name led police to Loel,
who had been living in' a palm-
thatched lean-to at the city dump
while working as a junk peddler.
The FBI charged ' him with
fleeing Oklahoma City to avoid
prosecution for the brutal knife
slaying of .Elizabeth .Jeanne
Henderson, about 34, Compton,
Calif. She was found slain in an

God church at Talent. She was
married to George Weeks at
Jacksonville on May 1, 1900. He
died Oct. 10, 1944.

Talent; three daughters, Mrs
Mary Boatwright, Shady Cove;
Mrs. Georgia Lindsay, Eugene,
