Mrs. Tamney and her co-chairmen, Mrs. Haugen, headed the general com mittee and also planned the decorations which included gaily-colored paper butterflies on madrone branches. Mrs. Ray B. Larson made the white organdy aprons stenciled with green letters which WGA hostesses wore. Among those attending the annual open house were the two couples' and a visitor pictured above. In the, group were (left to right) Mrs. Austin B. Laymance, Mr. Laymance, Mrs. Joseph D. Lewis, Seattle, Earl York and Mrs. York. Mrs. Lewis, daughter of Mrs. Laymance, is the former Beverly Conser here from Seattle to visit relatives and friends. The annual open house of the country club is one party which almost all of the membership attends, finding it a time to greet old friends and to meet newcomers to the valley. Pictured here are (left to right) H. X Meiring, retired colonel, Mrs. Meiring, Mrs. E. J. DeVoe and Mr. DeVoe. The DeVoes' daughter, Sue,Is a first-rate golfer, now holding the club and Southern Oregon women's championships. . The Meirings are long-time residents while the DeVoes came to Medford in recent years. Members of Women's Golf association make all arrangements for the annual club open house, but husbands are drafted into service as waiters and bartenders. Among those who donned big white aprons and helped at the Tom and Jerry table last Sunday were the three men pictured above. Serving (leljf to right) "are Frank Benesh, Roger Clark and J. T. Raabe. In addition to the traditional open house Tom and Jerryf the club also serves coffee. . (Brainerd photos) MEDFORD OREGON, SUNDAY, JANUARY 15, 1955 Society - Clubs - Music Another large social event of recent days- was the annual installation of officers of Reames chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, held last Saturday in Medford Masonic temple. The new worthy matron (center above) is Mrs. Jack Ward and serving with her will be Morris Boughner, worthy patron of the chapter. Mrs. Frank Little, a past matron of the chapter, served as in stalling matron. , ; : - (Landis-Shangle photo) ; v rr' By Olive Starcher The first two weeks of January were filled with many lodge ceremonies, for this is the month when most of the fraternal orders of the valley install new officers who will guide the group for the coming year. One of the largest recent social events was the annual open house of Rogue Valley Country club, held last Sunday. For this party members of the Women's Golf association act as hostesses and serve refreshments assisted by their husbands. The clubhouse is always thronged throughout the afternoon, and many couples remain for dinner. Heading Olive Rebelcah lodge for the coming year will be Mrs. Frank Chapman (right, above) who recently was Installed noble grand of the lodge. Working with her will be Mrs. J. D. Brummond, vice-grand, at whose home on South Holly street the picture was taken. by T ijs -,r fr rew ft The safety program of Medford's four elementary schools ranked fourth in the nation last year in the 10 to 2(5,000 population and with 459 cities participating. Pictured here are three principals (left to right) John Childers, Roosevelt,' Vincent Bevis, Lincoln and Robert Baccus, Jack son, discussing this year's program. Safety assemblies, an organized- patrol, posters, public pro grams, a cooperating parent-teacher group and other requirements are fulfilled to win the award, and an expanding program each year is also required.: Medford schools were the only ones in Oregon to win the national award this year.'
