" The new Ashland Mortuary is expected to be open for busi ness some time this week. .- Conger - Morris funeral home was originally established in 1888 by John Weeks, who serv ed the community as an under taker, first at Phoenix. Shortly before his death in . 1902, Mr. Weeks opened a furniture store and . undertaking : business on Front st., near Eighth, in Med ford. His youngest son, .Fred, moved to Medford to help him and shortly thereafter they built a two-story, frame building on the present site of Weeks and Orr Furniture store. . In 1900 this building was sold and moved away, and the pres ent' building was erected.: From 1906 until 1920, Bert Orr and the late W. H. McGowan be came business associates of Fred Weeks in the funeral business. ' In 1920 this funeral business was . purchased by H. W. " Con ger, who passed away in 1949, and Mabel C. Conger. Reserve Service by Officer Young men wishing to choose the Navy for their military ser vice' were. advised today to en list in a reserve unit before new legislation affecting the reserve program is enacted, J. Rodney Keating, Jackson county: judge Awho is also com manding officer of the Naval reserve electronics division 13-5, pointed out that it is expected such new legislation will- severe ly limit or stop recruiting into the Naval reserve. - . "It appears that if the men in the 17 to 18 Vi-yeax-old brack et want the Navy as the service of their choice when they go on active duty, they had better en list in the Naval reserve and join a drilling' unit, either for pay or non-pay, before this pro posed legislation ,; is 7" enacted, Commander Keating said. Information on .the Navy re serve program is available from E. V. Tate, radioman first lass, at the Federal building, 33 North Riverside' ave:, on week days, or at the Medford post of fice on Saturdays. Telephone numbers are 2-2568 and 2-4060. ttoad Una Sunday Claaaiflad fc at noAfi Saturday : 10 am. Monday if As We Live MOTHER-IN-LAW LISTENS IN ON TELEPHONE TALKS Sharing a house , with in-laws can cause a lot of trouble. The best way to put an end to fins is to move away. . ' (Q) "Wo lira on tha socond -floor of a houso my husband's . parania own. Wo nave our own - aparimant but our phono is ' tha tuna as thairs. My mothar- in-law always answers tha "phono as soon as it rings. If it , is for mo sho doasn't hang up .whan sho hoars , mo on tha lina, but listen whila I talk. Br ELIZABETH HURLOCK, PH.D. This Infuriates ma. Also, when ever I go out of tha house, Z aaa her coming io lha window to watch where, I am going, t don't think it is any of her affair. If eel as if I were being . spied on. My husband ' Hkes Hying in the same house as his folks; he likes to go down- 'stairs to see them in the eve nings. We have no children and could live anywhere we wanted.. I -think his parents ' count' on the rent we pay them, ', but I tell my husband . they could rent ; Iho apartment, to someone else. How ean X eon' vince him that I am not happy as things are now?": (A) From what you have said I infer that your husband is some- m iuing - oi a who would never believe you if you suggested that his . mother "spies" on you. Therefore you would have to :have a better argument than that to per suade him to move. ' . So far as you are concerned, it is essential to get away. .Of course your mother-in-law should t . .Tk -i Dr. Hurlock not listen In -on your telephone conversations. Most people would not stoop to such a thing. It-may be just idle curiosity that makes her look out of the window every time you leave the house, but at the same time it is bound to be annoying to a grown woman. . ; : Couldn't ypu persuade your husbaad that you want to have a small house in the . country 60 you can have a garden? Or think up some other good reason, for wanting to move far enough away from your in-laws that they will not interfere in your life. (Copyright 1955, General . Features Corp.)
