TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Sunday, January 9. 1155 Jacobs -Lawrence Rites Held in Medford Church- Mr. and Mrs. Donald Walter Jacobs, married December 29 at First Presbyterian church here, are now living in Eugene where Mr. Jacobs is enrolled at the University of Oregon. The bride is the former Patri- Sorority Makes First Plans for Annual Luncheon Plans are now underway for the annual valentine luncheon and card party which Alpha Rho , chapter of Beta Sigma Phi spon sors. The event was discussed Thursday evening at a meeting of party chairmen at the home of Mrs. Paul Dix, 801 West Main 'street. v These chairmen are. reserva tions, Mrs. T. R. Lytle, decora tions, Mrs., Mrs. Roger Note; prizes, Mrs. Larry Allen; cards and tables, Mrs. Curt Butter field; publicity, Mrs. Mark Mc Kenziet cashiers and hostesses, Mrs. Charles Marrs; favors, Mrs. John Lamberty. The general cochairmen for the affair are Mrs. Dix and Mrs. W. H. Fisher. The party will be St Valentine's day. Mon- day, February 14, at Rogue Val ley Country club. : The party plans were started and committees announced at chapter meeting last Monday evening, at the home of Mrs. Larry Allen, 716 Hamilton street. Ex cerpts from the book, "It Could Be Verse," by Joseph F. New r,ft rmntations from one of II A CI A A v-w . the volumes on Abraham Lin coln' written by Carl anaourg, were read. Members discussed the various types of literature each preferred and each gave the name of her favorite book. Plans were also made for a valentine's formal dance for members and their guests to be held in the Pioneer room of the Jackson hotel, Saturday, Febru ary 12. . The next regular meeting will be January 17 at the home of Mrs. J. R. Sullivan, 850 Pennsyl vania street. Birthday Party Event of Monday Dr. S. Ralph Dippel was hon ored at a surprise birthday party held Monday evening at the Dip noi Vivm at 1 Eastwood drive. mn TKrmel arranged the party aviri 16 euests attended. Cards were played during the evening and the Dippels showed colored slides of a trip to Ha wan. . cia Anne Lawrence daughter of Mr. and ; Mrs. Don Lawrence, 1017 West Main street, and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Don L. Jacobs, 602 Ross lane. Dr.' D. Kirkland West, pastor ol First - Presbyterian church, officiated for the afternoon cere mony, and the reception which followed was in the church Fire place room. About 75 guests at tended. For the service the bride wore a navy blue suit with pink felt hat , and carried a bouquet of baby orchids. She was given in marriage by her father and at tended by her sister, Mrs. R. O. Sims, Roseburg. Mrs Sims wdre a plum colored suit with corsage of white gardenias. Dale Cook was best man for the bridegroom and ushers were Ned and Ted Landers. Mrs. Lawrence wore a royal blue jacket dress for her daugh ter's wedding, with gardenia corsage and the bridegroom's mother wore a navy blue dress and her flowers were also gar denias. During the reception Mrs. J. L. . McDaniel, Ashland, took charee of the guest book, Miss Florence Stacey cut the wedding cake and Miss Patricia Rukovina served punch. Baskets of white and pastel colored snapdragons and chry santhemums decorated the church. The reception flowers were pale pink and white chry santhemums arranged with white candles. Music for the wedding was provided by Miss Patricia West, organist, and Mrs. Stanley La- cev. who sans. The newlyweds made a-brief wedding trip to the coast and then left for Eugenc The bride attended Oregon State college for a time after her graduation from Medford High school. The bridegroom was one of Medford High school's outstanding foot ball stars and earned his football letter on the University of Ore gon team last fall. He is a soph omore and has been living at Philadelphia house on the cam pus. In Medford for the wedding were the bride's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. R. O. Sims and children, Donna, Gary and Marcia Diane and Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Rinabarger, all Rose burg; Mr. and Mrs. L. J. McDaiv iel and son, Ron, Pasadena, Calif., who were in Ashland as guests of the McDaniel's son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs, J. L. McDaniel. i V; ft " "si Mr. and Mn. Donald Waller Jacob (Landii-Shangle photo) Problem of Teacher Recruitment To Be Discussed by Educators The public is invited to attend a panel discussion on the sub ject, "Techniques in Teacher Recruitment," to be held at the Medford Lincoln school gymnasium, Thursday, January 13, at, 8 p.m. The panel is being sponsored, by the members of 'Epsilon chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, a national honorary society for women teachers, Some suggestions for a solu tion to the problem of teacher shortage will be. discussed by the panel . made up of persons in Medford and Ashland considered to be outstanding in the field of education. . The number of new teachers' required to staff this building adequately would be 3,609. r.The teachers have posed four possibilities in regard to the recruiting problem which will be discussed by the panel, They are, 1, getting along with fewer teachers, 2, recruiting more, 3, keeping ' only, the b e s t, " or 4, measuring quality., Other topics to be discussed are "What is wrong with teach ing?" "Is it not attractive?" "Are certification requirements too high?" Sojourners Club To I nduct Officers First meeting of . the new year for Medford Sojourners club is scheduled for Thursday, Jam ary 13 at 1 p.m. in the Medford hotel. Installation of - officers will be held. Cards will be the afternoon diversion and a des sert luncheon will be served. Church Rites In Medford Marry Couple Gold Kill An event of De cember 23 was the wedding of Miss Beverly Moser, daughter of . Mr. and Mrs. A. C. . Moser, Gold Hill, to Neil Richardson. He is the son of Mt. and Mrs. Frank Richardson Sr., Central Point. The doublering ceremony took place ' at' 3 "o'clock in the after noon at First Methodist church, with Dr. Raymond Balcomb offi ciating. Mr; Moser gave his daughter in marriage. ' The church; decorations were baskets of white stock, pink snap dragons and carnations., Candle lighters were two cousins of the bridegroom, Misses Marline and Dorathy. .Gardner, . Ashland. Mrs. Richard. Schuchard was organist. ": ' - ' The bride wore a suit of wood rose color .'with pale pink acces sories' jand carried pink and white roses and carnations with a white Bible. Mrs. Dale Garner was hon or, attendant and Mrs. ' Frank Richardson Jr., Central Point, a sister-in-law of the bridegroom, was matron of honor. Mr. Richardson was best man and Dale Garner was grooms man. Ushers were Ronald von der -r-Hellen-, Central Point, and Larry "Alberts, Grants Pass. Nancy -Mallon, . Central Point, was in charge of the guest book. .. Mrs. Moser, . mother of the bride, Wore a grey dress, with black ; accessories. Her shoulder corsage was pink roses. Mrs. Richardson, mother of the bride groom, wore a pink colored dress, with black accessories and her corsage was of pink roses. The reception was held after the ceremony at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Garner, 240 North Hollv street. Mrs. Lester Ellis and Mrs. Chester Baker as sisting Mrs. Garner in serving. The newlyweds are living at 801 East Main street, Medford. The bride was .graduated from Crater High school and attended nursing school in Eugene. She is now on the staff of bacred Heart hospital. Mr.' Richardson also was graduated from Crater High school and is attending Southern Oregon college, Ash land. He is a member of Sigma Alpha Sigma, men's speech fra ternity, and of Theta De,lta Phi, scholastic honor society for men. Episcopal Guild Installs Officers Shady Cove . Littrell was hcu ored at a luncheoa given Wed nesday by' Mrs. Hugh Coleman and Mrs. I. E. Staples at the former's home, 1806 East Main street.. A few of Mrs. Littrell's close friends were guests. Mrs. Littrell and her husband recently returned to the city after a winter vacation in Cali fornia, and left again Friday for Salem where he will " serve in the coming session of the Oregon legislature as a representative from Jackson county.
