was lowered to as little as three
points through the fine shooting

bang last night with division
winners from both the North
and the South grabbing wins,
but they can look for competi
tion before the season is over,
Southern California's defend
ing champions downed the rug
ged California Golden Bears, 63
to 56, but the victory came at
the free throw line. The Bears
outscored the Trojan? from the
floor, 24-19, as California's all
American center Bob McKeen
hit for 30 points.
The Trojans maintained ball
control most, of the game and
were able to score from the free
throw line as they were given
39 free throws of which they
made 25 good.
At the same time, the Washing
ton Huskies and Stanford In
dians were serving notice that
they will be contenders when
the chips are down.
The Huskies - used ; height
speed and good shooting to bat
ter the University of Idaho Van.

high ninth grade hoopmen got
into action Friday afternoon as
the Bulldogs defeated the Crater
high freshmen 42 to 24 at Central
Point
Medford took a 13 to 8 com
mand in the first quarter and
was in front 19 to 12 at the end
of a low-scoring second period.
The Bulldogs were ahead 30 to
16 at the end of the third canto.
Tom Hamlin of, Medford was
main scorer with 16 markers,
followed by his teammate Ted
Brauner - with . nine. Lyman

for Crater.

the closing moments. Ashland's
