Mr. and Mrs. Paul Glines of Cave Junction were Sunday vis itors at the Herb Brooks home and attended the morning ser vices at Hope Presbyterian church with the Books. Mr. Brooks is city judge at Cave Junction. The Christmas Eve candle light service on Friday from 11 p.m. to 12 midnight will be sup ported by the regular choir and soloists. This traditional wor ship is intended for the general public and has come into great importance of late years. All are welcome. - Guests at the Clifford Voss home on Old Stage road north Dec. 20 for a canasta party were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dingles, Mr. and Mrs. James Whipple and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Smith; Phil Hillis, home on 15-day leave from the Navy, has been visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hillis of Evans creek. Debbie Reynolds, Comedy Team Most Cooperative Hollywood flJ.R) Debbie Reynolds and the team of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis today held awards for being named the most cooperative film stars of 1954 by the Hollywood Wom en's Press club. The women writers presented golden apples to Miss Reynolds and the comedy team yesterday at their annual Christmas party. Named as the least coopera tive actor and actress of the year were Edmund Purdom and Doris Day. They, of course, were not present. 0 C , . Family and friends coming and going. And they'll all be thirsty! So, be prepared! We don't often indulge in exclamation marks but here they're really justified! Charm ing and gracious hosts and host esses and their teen-age sons and daughters will have ready for all comers, a bowl or pitcher of the traditional holiday eggnog or one of the. many colorful party punches. Punchbowl or pitcher. If you don't happen to have a big punch bowl, it doesn't matter a whit. Use the biggest bowl in the house or pour from a pitcher. Small glasses however are desirable and can be stocked up if neces sary at the nearest ten cent store. For informal entertaining, the buffet or any convenient table is fine. Your beverage together with thin slices of fruit cake, holiday cookies and salted nuts is quite adequate. , Lemonade Eggnog Family and King Size An eggnog that is frothy and tasty, easy to make, uses the popular concentrate for lemon ade which as you know is pure California lemon juice frozen with sugar. First we "give you the recipe for the family size" for small bowl or pitcher filling: 6 eggs , 3 6-ounce cans frozen concen trate for lemonade cup powdered sugar 1 pint whole milk v . 1 pint heavy cream ' Nutmeg ' V 1 Beat egg yolks until thick and cream-colored. Add concentrate for lemonade. Beat egg whites until stiff and gradually add the powdered sugar to them while beating. Then combine the egg mixtures gradually and carefully1 stir in the milk, one-half cup at a time (use electric mixer if you have one, on low). Proceed exactly as for fam ily size, using 12 eggs (separated) four 6-ounce cans frozen concen iraie ior lemonade, one. cup powdered sugar, one quart whole milk, one quart heavy cream and of course nutmeg for sprinkling over top. -Cranberry Punches Both Hot and Cold Here are fine punch recipes made with plentiful, inexpensive canned cranberry juice cocktail and with jellied cranberry sauce. Keep them handy. Cheery Punch This to be served over crushed ice or ice cubes: 25 servings, Combine three pints cranberry cocktail, three cups orange juice, 114 cups lemon juice and.lH cups pineapple juice. Mix well with IVz cups sugar and three cups water; pour over ice. Cranberry Nog 1 For just the family, tree trim mers or other special, occasion, this makew eight servings. Beat three egg yolks until light and fluffy; Add- one-half cup milk and one pint cranberry juice cocktail. Beat until well blended, Add one-half teaspoon vanilla, Make meringue of the three egg whites and three tablespoons sugar. Fold into cranberry mix ture just before serving. Hot Buttered Punch Traditional in many families. Dotted with butter, this usually is served with cinnamon stick stirrers. Makes 2V2 quarts- for party serving or keep on hand for heating to boiilng point as needed. Bring to boil three fourths cup firmly packed brown sugar, one cup water, one-fourth teaspoon salt, one-fourth tea spoon nutmeg, one-half teaspoon cinnamon, one-half teaspoon all spice, three fourths teaspoon cloves. Crush two one-pound cans jellied cranberry sauce with fork. Add three, cups water and beat with rotary beater until smooth. Add cranberry liquid and one quart pineapple juice to hot spiced syrup and heat to boiling.1 Serve hot with nutmeg dasn. Turkey Roasting Done Differently Nowadays . . We may seem to give this good advice of ten but it is so easy to roast a turkey 'to perfection every tune by following these modern,' up-to-date methods, Grandmother turned out-a fine turkey, but modern methods are even better. Oven temperature at 325 de- grees, no matter the. size of the "turk". No need to worry about adjusting heat to size of birds as cooks used to do. Roasting time varies of course with size of bird; time varying from Zb to five hours for" oven-ready six to 12 pounders, five to six hours for oven-ready 12 to 16 pounders, six to 7V2 hours. for 16 to 20 pounders and 7 to nine hours for 20 to 24 pounders. Roast turkey on a rack in a shallow pan. Do not add water or cover the pan. To' protect tur key from getting too brown or dry, many like to place a loose "tent" of aluminum foil over the bird or a piece of thin cloth moistened occasionally with fat. Use light touch when "stuffing poultry. Do not pack or the re sult will be ditto. Let Turkey Set Specialists advise 20 to 30 minutes out-of-the-oyeji Waiting period before serving. Men Like Appetizers That Have Real Zest - Women may like to fuss with fancy doodads when it comes to making appetizers, but give a man a chance and he'll fix up zesty ones like these. quick Dip " . Potato chips, corn chips and crisp crackers along side; maybe celery. ' -Thuringer Picks , Quick and good are little cubes of Thuringer stuck on picks with a topping of pickled onion, stuffed olive or piece of dill pickle. Make lots of these. Frank Fillers - Frankfurters, that is. These take a little fixing but are worth the effort. Slit frankfurters. In sert stick of cheese, cut in 1-inch pieces and wrap each piece in bacon.
