Fowler; $275 for barn, by Wal ter Armpriest, and $100 for the spray shed, by Seth L. Waters. The buyers will have 90 days in which to remove the struc tures. . In other business, the council approved transfer of the private American Legion club license outlet to John Mansfield as a public lounge. The legion, which is moving to a new city location in the near future, will not apply for a license at the new location, according to Stanley Jones Jr., license committee chairman. The council approved the trans fer application, with the stipula tion that the transfer would not increase the total number of city liquor dispensing licenses, and no objections were voiced? Approval was also given to a transfer of a license for the 90 and 9 tavern, Highway 99 south, from the present operator to the .former owner. ...... Mayor D. L. Flynn requested the special milk ordinance com mittee to meet tomorrow with state inspectors regarding a new milk inspection ordinance for the city. Committee . members are Paul Selby, Frank Runtz and Earl Miller. : A paving assessment ordin ance for Hamilton .street was adopted, with a total cost of $9,360.46 spread over 14 assess ments. Golf driving range land at the airport was rented to W. H. Fisher for $50 a year. A grain crop will be planted on the area, with the agreement subject to cancellation if the driving range is rented. Adoption of an ordinance con cerning licensing of watchmen and private detective agents was withheld pending further study. Armory Report Made A report was made ' on the Dec. 16 meeting' of the armory construction committee. It was stated by R. S. Daniels, city rep- rsentative on the committee, that construction is expected to begin by March 15, the target date set earlier. City employees, except fire and police, were allowed Friday afternoon before Christmas off. The council adjourned until Dec. 31 at 12 noon, when the calendar year's business will be wound up. Adlai Sees Need For Co-Existence in Coming Year New York (U.R) Adlai E. Stevenson, Democratic Presi dential candidate in '1952, said today "It is either co-existence or no existence in the atomic-hydrogen age.'1 Stevenson's statement was con tained in a series of predictions for 1955 collected from national and world leaders by Look mag azine. "Co-existence" was the subject of many of the predic tions. To Press Forward Secretary of State John Foster Dulles made the prediction that: "Under the wise guidance of President Eisenhower, the De partment of State will press for ward, to consolidate the gains made in the last 12 months and to assure the opportunity to en joy, in peace, the blessings of liberty." . French Premier Pierre Men-des-France saw a year of oppor tunities "to strengthen the ties among free nations" thus help ing "to overcome our fears, to be ready for and to seek each con crete opportunity for world un derstanding, . co-operation and disarmament with a good will that our partners will have to recognize.". Red Concept Assailed - Sen. William F. Knowland, Republican majority leader and an opponent of much adminis tration . foreign policy, assailed the "Communist concept -of 'peaceful - co-existence' " which he said "means that, the United States and other free nations will be allowed to exist only until Communism has been able to subvert them from within or destroy them by aggression from without. Gen. Lewis .B. Hershey said today draft rules will not be changed as a result of reduced monthly calls but that registrants un doubtedly will find it a little easier to win deferments. ' The draft director said the ad ministration's decision to cut in ductions in half, from 22,000 or 23,000 to 10,000 or 11,000 month ly, also will mean draft-age youngsters will have longer to wait before their selection, even if they are not deferred. May Go-To Four Years Other experts in Hershey's of fice said in some areas the delay 138 Memberships In Festival Sold Ashland A total of 138 memberships for the 1955 Shake speare festival season a record jiumber for this time of year had been sold through Monday of this week, according to Wil liam Patton, festival general manager. ' Of this total, 58 memberships were sold to people in the Rogue valley and 80 to people in other areas, Patton said. The number sold in the valley rose rapidly over the week end, as the dead line for the festival's special rate neared, according to the general manager. . ; . Memberships - purchased through Dec. 24 at $12; after that the membership, which pro vides eight transferable admis sions to festival plays, will be $15. Many people are purchas ing, the season subscriptions 'for Christmas gifts, Patton said. In the past three days, Med ford residents became the lead ing purchasers of memberships, closely followed by Portland, San Francisco bay area, and southern California enthusiasts. Maxene Andrews Denies Suicide Try Hollywood (U.R) Maxene Andrews, 37, one of. the famed singing Andrews Sisters, denied today she attempted suicide by taking an overdose of sleeping pills. She returned to her Chats worth home from Valley Re ceiving Hospital where her stom ach was pumped. : "I did not try to kill myself," she said. " - v She said she had taken only two sleeping pills due to extreme exhaustion. Police said she had taken 18 pills in a "suicide at tempt" caused by despondency over a breakup with her sisters last Christmas. - , "I'm living my own secluded life and I'm extremely happy," Maxene said. . Dr. . Wallace Richmond, the singer's physician, said Maxene was suffering from a "mild ner vous breakdown" resulting from a recent trip with her sister, La Verne, to Australia.
