This is the message to all tardy Christmas Seal purchas ers from Mrs. M. O. Grove, Seal Sale chairman for the Jackson county Public Health associa tion. - W spite of all the baking, buy ing, sewing, trimming, tying, and letter writing still to be done before Christmas, every one who has not answered the Christmas Seal letter received in the mail in November is urged by Mrs. Grove to make Monday the day for mailing contributions to the fight against tuberculosis. Address Given - "In case this vitally important letter has been mislaid under stacks of Christmas cards and fancy wrappings,'' she said, "just address another envelope to Christmas Seal Sale, Box 792, Medford, Oregon. Persons who need more Christmas Seals for cards, packages, and decorations, should telephone 2-4818." After 50 years of fighting tu berculosis through seal sales, this disease has still not been wiped out. Mrs. Chester Guches, president of the Jackson County Public Health association, said "It has been cornered, but not conquered. . Most people have heard that the number of deaths from tu berculosis is dropping. But ap proximately 400,000 Americans have active tuberculosis and roughly 1,200 Americans with the disease in either its active or inactive form should be under medical supervision. More than 100,000 new cases are reported each year, Mrs. Guches said. y In Jackson county, 11 new eases were reported in the past year, nine in an advanced state. It is estimated that there are 99 unkown cases. It is possible for the tubercle bacilli to live out - side the body for hours or days. Christmas Seals are the only source of income for the asso ciation's TB prevention and con trol programs in Jackson , coun ty. Of the amount received, 4 per cent is sent to the National Tuberculosis" association, 22 per cent to the Oregon Tuberculosis hospital association, and 74 per cent retained for the local program. Six Names Submitted As Senate Possibilities ' Portland (U.R) Names of six men were submitted to county commissioners Friday for the two state Senate seats made vacant by election of Democrats Rich ard I. Neuberger to the U. S. Senate and Jack Bain as a Mult- homah county commissioner. t The Multnomah county Demo cratic Central Conmmittee ap proved submission of the six names at a meeting last night. They include Joseph K. Carson, defeated gubernatorial candi date; Alfred Corbett, state rep resentative; George Friede, at torney and former state legisla tor; Harry George, attorney; Ken Kraemer, former legislator, and Victor Rosenfeld, finance manager for the Edith Green-f or Congress committee. ' Scotland -Yard, probably the world's most famous police head quarters, got its name because it stood until 1890 in a short and ancient street where, in me dieval times, the kings of Scot land stayed when they came to pay homage to the English crown. Christmas Seals money is buy ing x-ray equipment for the Community and Sacred Heart hospitals, tuberculin testing for school children, and health education. Aggression Charge Rejected by U. N. United Nations (U.R) A Russian charge that the United States was responsible for ag gression a g a i nst Communist China was rejected by. the United Nations Friday by a vote of 44 to 5. Only the five members of the Soviet bloc voted for the Soviet resolution. Russia charged that ."armed forces under the control of the United States meaning Na tionalist China and the U. S. Seventh Fleet were commit ting acts of aggresison in the form of unprovoked armed at tacks on the towns and coastal areas of Red China." The Soviet delegation asked the United ' Nations "to "con demn" the alleged acts of ag gression and recommend that the United States "which is responsible" take steps to end them.
