FOUR MEDFORD (OREGON) Dinner, Reception Held On Fh ftieth Anniversary The son and three daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Longhurst, 814 Grant avenue, were in Medford recently for the golden wed ding anniversary of the couple. A family dinner at the Medford hotel was followed by an informal reception in the recreation room. Here for the event were the couple's son, C. E. Longhurst, Everett, Wash., and their daugh ter, Mrs. Grant Marsh and Mr. Marsh, Honolulu, T.H.; Mrs. Nor man Berg and daughter, Chris tine, Medford, Mrs. C. D. Nas lund, Mr. Naslund and their i daughters, Judy and Janet, Myrtle Point. Also here were Mrs. M. A. Besser and Mr. Besser, El Monte, Calif., sister and brother-in-law of Mrs. Longhurst; Stanley Longhurst and Mrs. C. H. Marrs, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, brother and sister of Mr. Long hurst, and another brother, Charles Longhurst, Los Angeles, and his wife. Onlv family members unable to attend the celebration . were Mr. Berg, and the Longhurst's grandsons, Grant and Phillip Marsh. Mrs. Besser and Mrs. Marrs cut the golden wedding cakes, and Mrs. Dwight Logan, Eugene, and Mrs. Elsie Lewis, Medford, served punch. During the family dinner Mrs. Marsh read a family history which Mr. Marsh had written for the occasion. Judy Naslund took charge of the guest book. Decorations were made up of 500 small orchids which Mr. and Mrs. Marsh had' brought from Hawaii. Included were an orchid tree, and the numerals - "50", made from orchids. ' For the dinner and reception; Mrs. Longhurst wore an Alice blue gown with silver trimmings and a corsage of golden orchids Her daughters wore corsages of brown orchids. ' ; ; ' Among the guests were MrJ and Mrs. Dwight Logan and daughters, Eugene; Mr. and Mrs. William Bell and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. B. Tennant, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Horn, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Wagner, Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert Peebles, Mr. and Mrs. Ed ward C. Kelly, Mr. and Mrs. K. Elude, Gold Hill; Mrs. Albert Straus, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Nor ris and Mrs. Lewis. The honored couple received many gifts. - Mr. and Mrs. Longhurst were married in Golden, British Co lumbia, December 4, 1904. They moved to ' Everett, Wash., in years ago. . ; ' - Mr. Longhurst is secretary and treasurer of the Local 503, Amalgamated Meat Cutters' and Butchers Workmen of North America here. They are spending a few days visiting their niece, Mrs. Naslund and family, Myrtle Point, and will return the first of the week. Birthday Party In Central Point Honors Woman Central Point Mrs. Effie Erwin, who makes her home with her son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Ditch, Central Point, was honored at a party last Wednesday afternoon in observance of her 73rd birth day. The party was held at the home of her daughter and was attended by about 20 women from the Friends church, Med ford. Her actual birthday is December 23. The event was in the form of a surprise and Mrs." Erwin was presented a cake. The cake had been decorated by Joe Wolk-Lan- iewski, a friend of the family. She also was presented many other gifts, and the cake and other refreshments were served. Mrs. Harold Allen, Central Point, and Mrs. Raymond Brood, Medford, furnished duets, and Mrs. Milo Hardin told the Christ mas story from the Book of St. Luke. The ; group also sang Christmas carols, i ' After the birthday party Mrs. Clynton, Crisman, . wife of the pastor "of the Friends church, was presented a friendship quilt by the Grandmothers chib pf the church. Auxiliary-Guild Elects Officers St. Mark's auxiliary guild members el ected Mrs. G. R. Owens president of the group during a Christmas luncheon De cember 10. Mrs. Roy V. Rickard is the first vice-president; Mrs. R. K. Bailey, second vice-president; Miss Amy Harding, record ing secretary; and Mrs. William Isaacs, treasurer. Mrs. L. D. Whiteford, Miss Lillian Whiteford, Mrs. B. C. Richardson and Mrs. E. Dalen were'hostesses for the luncheon. Mrs. Herschel Morris, accom panied by Mrs. Ernest Conrad, sang Christmas' songs, and Miss Harding read a Christmas mes sage. The next meeting will be Fri day, January 14. C. Kinney, Freeman road. Miss Cummings, a former stu dent at Crater High school, is now an employee of Mann's de partment store. Her fiance at tended . Medford Senior High school and served two years in the United States Army. He is now employed at Bear Creek Packing company. , The wedding will take place in early spring. 4 Lincoln School Announces Events - Parents and friends of chil dren in Lincoln school are in vited to attend several Christ mas activities December 22 and 23. ...J-: . ... . The Christmas program will be in the school '"gymnasium starting at 1:30 p.m. December 22 with school being dismissed at about 2:30 that day. The school band,' directed by Al Huntemeua, and the school or chestra under the direction of Miss Audrey Brist will take part in the program. There are approximately 40 students in the band and about 22 in the orchestra. In addition to the . tree in the gymnasium, each room will have a Christmas tree and an exchange of , gifts , during . the home room parties. During this time Santa Claus will visit each room, and pass out treats to the children. Preschool children may attend the home room par ties if accompanied by their brothers or sisters. Primary grade will, hold their parties from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and the. in termediates from 1 until 2 p.m. December 23, Parents may also attend the home room parties. School will, be' dismissed at 2 p.m. on the 23rd. . Sev eral singers, from each school in Medford will appear on the program. .. . , . Auxiliary Gives Children's Party Shady Cove ' A children's Christmas party was sponsored Saturday by members of the aux iliary to the Steelhead post, Vet erans of Foreign Wars, and a Christmas party and potluck din ner for auxiliary members was held Friday evening. Another auxiliary event was a "Pill pal" party Wednesday. During a recent business ses sion of the group Mrs. Fred Lawrence, district president, and Mrs. O. O. DeBerry, both of Med ford, and Mrs. Nila Perry, Grants Pass, were guests. At the meeting Mrs. Walter J. Blair's application for member ship was accepted. A dinner for Rotary club members of Shady Cove was planned and Mrs. Gene House was appointed chairman for the event. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Ruby Oliver, Mrs. S.. Par rick arid Mrs. E. Osborn. The next meeting will be January 7. , Guild Discusses ; Hey Day Plans -Plans for the 1955 Heyday, sponsored by the Tudor guild of the Oregon Shakespearean Fes tival theater, were discussed at a meeting held last week at the home of Mrs. Myron Root, - 28 North Berkeley way, t and at tended by guild members. -The Heyday is given annual ly as a benefit for the scholar ship fund for Shakespearean ac tors. - - Daughter Home Miss Nancy McKinstry arrived Friday evening from Corvallis to visit through the holidays with her parents, Mr. and-Mrs. E. N. McKinstry, 744 Dakota avenue. She is a student at Ore gon State college. KV1 ? Sr ft Org a i Society ; , ' Has Yule Party. , Thursday Night 1 About 70 persons attended a Christmas party and dinner Thursday evening at the Med ford hotel for members of the Southern Oregon chapter, Ham mond Organ - society, . and their guests.' ,....- ' .The group was organized Sep tember 20 and is made up of persons interested in organ music.- : V . ' Meetings are held 'once each month at Puruckers Piano house and anyone interested in beconv ing a member is invited to at tend the meetings. 1 Merle Stover, the youngest member of the chapter, played selections, and others who fur nished music on organs for the occasion were Tommy Widner, Grants Pass, and Mrs. Dorothy F. McQuat. Group singing was led by Bob Randall, Grants Pass. Thirty members received membership certificates in the organization which is nation wide. The group originally was made up of about 40 persons and now has a membership of 70. . The president is Z. Edgar Ir win, Grants Pass, and the three vice-presidents are Art Hall, Ashland, Leonard Mathews, Medford, and Bob Pinket, Grants Pass. Mrs. Ted Conway, Shady Cove, is the secretary, and Sam Taylor, Medford, treas urer. The board of directors is made up of Don Miller and Dr. G. A. Dierdorff, both of Medford, and Merle Stover. The next meeting will be Jan uary 21, at the piano house. " . ' Gardeners Meet . In Jacksonville Jacksonville The December meeting of Jacksonville Garden club was held at the home of Mrs. Paul Godward. Roll call was answered by giving the name of a red-berried shrub and a few specimens were displayed. A branch of laridi - pyracantha, brought by Mrs. Lawrence Luy, was especially beautiful. A ' busmess meeting was fol lowed by a social hour and Christmas gift exchange among the members. Miss Claire Han lejs received a prize. Dessert luncheon, including a variety of Christmas cookies, was served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. James Winningham and Mrs. Robert Sorber. . December 13, several members met at the clubrooms and worked on garlands for the Camp White Christmas decorations. . . " Twenty-three members attend ed the meeting at the Godward home. Events Announced -By Reames Chapter ; Mr., and Mrs. John Esp, re tiring worthy matron and patron of Reames chapter, Order of Eastern Star, will preside for the farewell meeting of the year when the chapter meets Thurs day, December 23, at 8 p. m. in Medford Masonic hall. Initiation and a reception for 1954 members is also planned for the evening. Shower Party , Wednesday Night A shower honoring Mrs. Stan ley Cramer, whose wedding was a recent event, was held Wednes day evening at the home of Mrs. Arthur Johnson. Mrs. Cramer, the former Gerrie Gilman, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert Gilman, Ross lane. Mrs. Clayton Copsey was pre sented a farewell gift. She will move soon to Alaska. Auxiliary Holds Business Session; Members Report Medford American Legion auxiliary held a business meet ing Tuesday evening at the Leg ion Home. Members ' brought canned goods which will be used in the Christmas baskets and it ; was reported that two baskets had been taken to fam ilies at Thanksgiving. Minor changes in the constitu tion were approved by the. mem bership, and reports of the stand ing committees were heard. Mrs. Leo Williams reported that 84, 000 memorial poppies have been made to date by the men at Camp White. Mrs. Earl Bigalow reported on the auxiliary child welfare con ference which she attended in Portland last week end. The- unit decided to make' its sewing project the making - of clothing for children.
