(Brainerd photo) ion, were honored as a climax to the fiftieth Five Women Honored by OSNA For Years of Nursing Service Five valley nurses , who have given many years of service, to the profession were honored' Tuesday evening by members of Dis trict Four, Oregon State Nurses association. The event' was held at the Community hospital penthouse and was in observance of 50 years of organization of the OSNA. Elections for the chapter also were held at the meeting. Those who were honored for their many years of service were Miss Kate Buckley of the Applegate; Mrs. Sara Sand Stev enson and Mrs. Edward (Ursula) Burgess, both of Medford; Miss Martha Hanley, Jacksonville, and Mrs. Bert R. (Julia) Elliott, Phoenix-Jacksonville highway. During the evening the hon ored nurses spoke of their ex periences in the nursing field. Miss Buckley, now retired, has spent 51 years -in the profession. Both she and Mrs. Stevenson served in France during World War I and Mrs. Stevenson was the first '.American nurse to Join the American Legion in France in 1919. She served as president of the North Dakota state nurses association. Mrs. Burgess received her nurses training in New Jersey and worked in Oregon for 21 years before she retired in 1952. She also was a rural nurse in Harney county. Each nurse was given a golden chrysanthemum in honor of the occasion. Mrs. Sue Montieth was elected president of the chapter; Miss Grace Stuhr, first vice-president; Mrs. Mabel Cram, second, vice president; Mrs. Sue 'DitJemore, treasurer, Mrs. Mary Helen (Swanson) Lehman, secretary. ' The directors elected are Miss Mamie Barrett, Miss Gertrude Molloy and Miss Alena Makinen. The nominating committee mem bers were Miss Dorothy Collard and Mrs. Brooksie Johnson. Car ter III arrived in Medford Mon day to visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Lovejoy, 609 Catherine street. With them are their two children, Julia Lee and Christopher. They are staying at the Med ford Plaza apartments, and Mrs. Carter and the two children will remain here for several months. Captain Carter will leave after the; holidays for Ft. Benning, Ga where they will take spec ial training. The young couple just com pleted two years of residence at Taipeh, Formost, where he was with the Military 'Advisory and Assistance Group of the U.S. Army assigned to the Nationalist government. They landed in San Francisco en route to Med ford. Wednesday Club Honors Member Mrs. R K. Deuel was present ed an honorary membership in the Wednesday Study . club De cember 15 during a Christmas party for the members at the Girls Community club. Mrs. Deuel has been a member for 47 years. She read the Christmas story, "Do Not Onen 'till Christmas " by Millie McWhirter. -.- Gifts were exchanged and tea was served. Holiday decorations were used for the tea table. . 4 Dinner Monday Given by Faculty ADout 55 persons, attended a dinner-dance party at Tally Ho restaurant Monday evening for members of the Medford Senior High school faculty. Wives and husbands of the instructors also were guests. Mrs. Johnnie Van Scoy was general chairman of the event and Warren Wolf had charge of the decorations. Comic gifts were exchanged and singing and dancing were diversions of the evening. Portland Couple To Visit in City Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Fritzam, Portland, are expected to arrive here Wednesday to visit through the week end at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George F. Weaver, 690 Cherry street. Now visiting at the Weaver home is their son, George Weaver, a dental techni cian third class serving with the Navy at Tongue Point, near As toria.' He will be here for 10 days and arrived yesterday. Hospital Plans Tea Wednesday Employees and others asso ciated with the Community hos pital are invited to attend an an nual tea at the hospital pent house, Wednesday, December 22, from 2 to 4 p. m. Pouring will be Mrs. Kather ine McDonald, Mrs. Ernest White,, Mrs. Marvin Eastwood and Mrs. George Woodcock. . 1060 Crater Lake Ave- Large Holiday Parties Given at Club; Junior Service League Sponsors Ball Two large holiday paities were given last week at Rogue; Valley Country club. Thursday evening Mr. . and Mrs. Lester Adams, Dr. and Mrs. C. I. Drummond, Dr. and Mrs. Charles W. Lemery and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Miksche were hosts for a dinner-dance at the club. Mrs. Miksche, known for her artistic flower and table arrange ments, had ' designed and ex ecuted the buffet table center piece. It was of dried flowers, leaves and pods, thickly silvered, and Christmas balls of silver and frosted pink. Tiny silver reindeer and frosted pink candles completed the . centerpiece. The table was laid with blue taffeta covered with white net, in keep ing with the main club decora tions which are of blue and sil ver this year. Another table held a tiny tree covered with dozens of small orchids. These were the gift of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Trow bridge, the orchids having been sent to them from Hawaii. Ninety guests attended. Friday evening the annual Christmas ball of Medford Jun ior Service .league was held at the club. Mrs. George McGill and Mrs. Allyn A. Monroe were co-chairmen for the ball, " pro ceeds from which will be used for support of the league's kind ergarten for hard-of -hearing chil dren. Abby Green and the club or chestra played for dancing, and a. pianist furnished music in the lower lounge. Tables were cen tered with Christmas candles and the small lounge was lighted with decorated candles. . About 125 attended the ball. Preceding the ball, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe and Mr. and Mrs. George Rasmussen were hosts for a cocktail party, inviting guests to the home of their par ents, Mr. and Mrs. George Rob erts, Crown avenue. A large silver bowl filled with bright Knife-Fork Club Cancels Meeting For Next Month There , will be no January meeting of the Rogue Valley Knife and Fork club, it was an nounced Saturday by the board of directors of the club. The next meeting will be February 7, when Gordon A. Sabine, dean of the school of journalism of the University of Oregon, will be the speaker. Instead of the January meet ing, an added meeting will be held in April or May, the an nouncement said, and efforts are now being made to secure a top flight speaker for one of those dates. A large committee of country club members, headed by Mrs. G. T. Haupert, planned and worked out the club decor. In the dining room masses of ever green, accented with blue lights and Christmas balls, decorate the walls and the large shadow boxes are covered with foil and ribbon to simulate gay Christ mas gift boxes. The notes of "Noel," done in blue and silver, cover the south door of the en trance hall, and a blue and silver tree stands near-by. Guests ar riving at the main entrance are greeted by a gay red and gold door. ' Silvered tretfs, brightly lighted at night, stand outside the big windows of the main cocktail lounge. Winter Concert To Be Monday Central Point The annual Crater High school winter con cert will be held1 in the school gymnasium Monday, December 20, at 8 p.m. No admission will be charged. A variety of winter and Christmas songs will be played by the band, and the mixed chorus will sing a number of songs, both sacred and secular. A feature of this concert will be the introduction of the Lavauers, a group of advanced singers. The band and choruses nave been rehearsine several weeks under the leadership of Norman Carothers, Crater High scnooi music director. The public is cordially invited to attend.
