This bosomy beauty, called Voluptua, is a new star on the local ABC TV station that the world Aline Motbr already has given Vampira. The famed Vampira is an ap parition in tatters, long finger nails and stringy.black hair who sits on a tombstone, strokes skunks and spiders and intro duces old horror movies. Now the station has added Voluptua, who figures to do for love what Vampira does for ghouls. i To. introduce the romantic movies, Voluptua enters through gauzy curtains and lounges on a six-foot round couch. While Vampira fondles ' a skull and drinks witches' brew on her show, Voluptua chats langorous ly on jewel-studded gold tele phone trimmed in mink. The telephone "rings" with a voice that sighs, "Voluptu-a-a-a." Moan Discarded Originally. the ring was to.be a moan. The station advertised to audition moaners (20 women showed up), but that inspiration was discarded. " After, the movie, Voluptua, trailing her negligee over a white bearskin rug, undresses behind a lipshaped screen. She emerges wearing only a man's pajama top. She kisses the view ers good-night, right into the camera, and waves at a statute of' Venus and a heart-shaped cage of lovebirds. Upon investigation Voluptua turned out to be an ex-show girl, Gloria Pall, 25, 5 feet 9 inches, 39-24-37. I have followed Gloria's career with interest. Once she turned up at a party for Marilyn Monroe wearing a low-cut dress that defied the laws of nature and gravity. No body looked at Marilyn. Later she was a showgirl in Las Vegas and then a comedienne in a burlesque theater in the gam bling city. Recently she landed small roles in movies and on 50 TV shows. . "I'm from Brooklyn. I was Miss Flatbush of 1947 and after that it was hard to keep me down on the farm," said Gloria. Dumb Blondes "I came to Hollywood in 1951 but I was too tall for leading lady roles. Producers said no body would take me seriously so I played dumb blondes. I'm going to show them I'm not so dumb. This show was my own idea." She describes the program as the female version of "The Con tinental," a male who drooped his eyelids on TV a few years back. ' Gloria is going all out to be Voluptua. She plans to startle the citizens by shopping in her gold - sequined, extra - deep - cut negligee. Today, however, she looked like a Valentine in a white leather suit and red sweat er. She has painted "red hearts on her glasses, fountain pen and scrapbook, and even sports a heart-shaped beauty mark on her left cheek. She gives lace handkerchiefs to lady fans and tiny yo-yos to men, "for idle hands." Despite her new title as the goddess of love on TV, Gloria confessed she actually is man less. "I was married last year for three months. When it didn't work out I decided to concen trate on work," she said. - "I hardly ever date." US'Ships Aid in Rescue Of Grounded Freighter Taipei, Formosa (U.R) U. S. Navy ships in the Straits of For mosa joined Chinese Nationalist vessels yesterday" in going to the rescue of the 1900-ton freighter Chikwang, grounded on the coast of Central Formosa. Strong winds pushed the Chik wang into shallow water while the " ship, was enroute from Kaohsiung to Keeling. The ship is owned by the Chinese Mer chant Steamship Navigation Company. CLASS UNDER GLASS Portland, Conn. U.R) Con cerned because few citizens bothered to visit classes in ses sion, school officials decided, to bring the classes to the visitors. An actual grade school class was set up in an automobile show room so outsiders could look in. (U.R) Chron ic horn-tooters, road hogs, speed ers and other "sad sack" motor ists can choose their own fate when they land before Municipal Judge Homer W. Buckley. They can either go to jail or see a psychiatrist. Buckley and a University of California c r i m i n ologist, Dr. Douglas M. Kelley, have worked out a unique experiment in traf fic law enforcement aimed at doing something about the driv er who gets traffic tickets as reg ularly as he gets his oil changed. Kelley, who served as chief psychiatrist on the international tribunal that tried Nazi war criminals, said the chronic traf fic violator is an anti-social type who is really a child at heart. Just Doesn't Care "He's not crazy. He just doesn't care about other people. He's as self-centered and impulsive as a five-year-old," Kelley said. The driver who never grew up is guilty of such stunts as pull ing into another lane to pass without bothering to look, or leaning on his horn the moment the stop light turns green. "What we're trying to find out is whether this kind of driv er is predictable, and if he's pre dictable can he be changed. And finally what does" it cost in dol lars and cents to change him?" the criminologist explained. The new program was set up two weekago with a $1500 ap propriation from the Oakland city council. A contract to carry it out was awarded to the local chapter of the National Safety Council. Candidates for a psychiatric Bender Gives Credit To Ike for Election Washington (U.R) Sen. George H. Bender (R-O.), said yesterday President' Eisenhower was the man most responsible for his election last November. He called at the White House to express his appreciation for Mr. Eisenhower's help in the campaign and to pledge his sup port in the Senate for the Eis enhower program. Heavy Winds Down Portland Power Line Portland j(U.R) A 57,000 volt power line was blown down Tuesday night as rain and winds with gusts up to 52 miles ' per hour struck Portland. .The line went down with a flash that could be seen over the most of the city, causing lights to flicker and some television sets to go out. - interview will be "hardened" violators. Those who have re ceived four or more tickets with in a year will be given the choice of going to jail, or a suspended sentence making the psychiatric course a requirement of their probation. The four-ticket motorist al ready will have attended a. spe cial traffic school after his first infraction, and "a driving im provement course after the third. . - Besides psychiatry, the fourth offenders will get a physical ex amination that might uncover poor eyesight or slow reflexes. Kelley. said that if the psy chiatric tests showed a problem driver cannot be "cured," steps will be taken to get him off the highways permanently, before he can do his bit toward increas ing the traffic death toll. ' "But we hope the session with the psychiatrist will wrap 'em a little bit in the right direction," he said. " ; Philco Charged With :.
