Wednesday December 8, 1954 U S. ADVOCATE RESIGNS Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Yoshida (right), one of the United States' strongest advocates in the Far East, resigned unexpectedly in the tface of an almost certain no-confidence, vote by the Diet 'in Tokyo. Observers speculated that Ichiro Hatoyama, , purged by Gen. Douglas MacArthur in 1946 as an "ultra nationalist,'' will succeed Yoshida. Hatoyama (left) emerged 'from post-war political obscurity only two weeks ago to head the newly formed Conservative Democratic Party. On The Side sy E v. That is, if it is given by a Grade A barber in a first class shop. A fair haircut handled by a sec ond class shop is not worth $1.50. To maintain that the price of a haircut in all barber shops should be $1.50 is ridiculous. It is like - maintaining that all meals, no matter what the qual ity of the food, or the standing of the restaurant should be priced at $4. If you are going to pay $1.50 for a haircut, see that you get the job done in the best shop in town. . - Profit What's the percentage of profit on a restaurant highball? How many drinks is a bartender supposed to get out of a fifth of whisky? I am just asking. Want to check statement of a New Yorker who says the profit on restaurant highballs is from 200 to 500 per cent. . Sidelights There never has been a Presi dent of the United States who was born in the Far West. Not only that, there never has been' a wife of a United States Presi dent, a "First Lady" who was born in the Far West. . . . Red haired women are unusually ro mantic. Quite a few marry for love. Jeanette MacDonald (Mrs. Gene Raymond) is no exception. She wears a very romantic ring. It is a gold ring to which two tiny hearts are attached, one in scribed "Jeanette" and the oth er "Gene." Among the Married . . What's he longest period be tween blessed events you know of? As for example, between the birth of a first and second child. I know of a woman who had her first child when she was 24 arid her second when 44. Twenty years between births. Incident ally, in Sweden, instruction in planned parenthood is available.
