Chipman of 70 Fourth street. Ashland. were honored at an open house last Sunday, November 28, which observed their 40th wedding anniversary. The event was at the home of the Chipmans' son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs . Among the guests was Mr, Chipman's cousin, Mrs. Hallie Lloyd, Bakersf ield, Calif. Mrs. j. Lloyd, who only recently moved -;to the west coast, had not seen '.her cousin for more than 50 ' years and her arrival in Med- ford for the event was kept secret from Mr. Chipman until they met at the party. The two both formerly lived in Momence, Also at tne anniversary open house was Mr. Chipman's broth er, H. H. Chipman, Medford. Mr. and Mrs. Cnipman were married in Spokane, Wash., De cember n, 1914, and came to Ashland in September, 1927, irom me wasmngion city, xneir - children are Harry Chipman, Medford, Mrs. W. D. Tuter, Dor- , ris, Calif., and Mrs. Frith Turner, 'Lake Tahoe, Calif. For the party Mrs. Chipman wore a dark blue dress with corsage of yellow rosebuds. ZIPPER ADJUSTS New York (U.R) Boon for ex panding waistlines: an expand ing zipper. One manufacturer is producing a zipper which ad-.- justs to change in body size with out clothing alteration. The zip per consists of two parts a eniav art r tv a miiwa ""can be moved along the entire length of the track, and by press ing the tab, be locked securely in place at any point. It is recom mended for adjustable waistlines in maternity clothes, for chil dren's clothes where waistline changes are rapid, or for active sportswear. The zipper is made in a variety of colors. Retriever Club Has Party Friday Members of Rogue Valley Re triever club gathered at the clubhouse of Medford Gun club Friday evening for a Christmas party. Dinner was followed by a program, arranged by Mrs. Paul Skinner, Grants Pass. Part of the entertainment was a humorous skit written by Mrs. Skinner which portrayed a re triever trial, with Mr. Skinner playing the part of the dog. Prizes were awarded during the evening, and Harold Shidler, president of Klamath Retriever club, showed pictures taken at various recent trials on the Pa cific coast. Mrs. Shidler was also a guest for the party, attended by about 35 persons. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene . Hunt were chairmen in charge of ar rangements. , 4 Forward Look Newest Hairdo Omaha, Neb. U.PJ Hair styl ist S. J. Franco predicted today that the newest thing in coiffures will be called the "forward look" and will feature two-tone color ing. Franco-also came up with the "luminous" hairdo, for ladies who like their heads to shine in the dark. The stylist, who operates two Omaha salons and also writes and lectures about hair, said the forward look" will be in keep ing with the spirit of the atomic age. It will be short, like a poodle cut," but with hair swept back and the ends coming forward in "polished fashion." . Oak Grove Club Plans Yule Party Mrs. L. B. Upper Applegate Highlight ing their year s program, 26 members and two guests of Up per Applegate Home Extension unit met December 1 for the an nual Christmas luncheon and gift exchange. Mrs. Gail Buffing- ton was the hostess at her new home on the Big 'Applegate river. The day's activities opened with a discussion on a "sugges tion box," which has been used throughout the year for mem bers to submit preferences for the next year's program. At the January meeting members will choose two of the sug gestions lor the coming year s work. i Presenting the day's project, 'Appetizing Meals From Can ned, Frozen, and Stored Foods," Mrs. Russell Mitchell and Mrs, George Sample described the preparation of, and served to matoes with herbs and baked pears at the luncheon hour. In stressing the five aims of the project, they pointed out that the lesson was to help the homemakers to have nutritious meals, use home, canned and frozen foods to make meals more appetizing, get more' variety in meals, save time and money by using food on hand, and work toward 'a food preservation plan. The luncheon committee for the day was made up of Mrs. Rolland Smith, Mrs. William Ziegler, Mrs. Harry Helms, Mrs. Buffington, and Mrs. James Win- ningham. ' ; Guests were Mrs. Edward Fin- ley of the Upper Applegate, and Mrs. Herb De Vos, Sterling Creek road. ' Meeting Planned- Plans for a Christmas party at Camp White will be made at a meeting of Rogue Valley Navy Motners Tuesday, December 7.
