Society and Clubs ; Fellowship Plans f Special Program v : For Women's Day f Members of. Christian Wo '.men's fellowship of First Chris I tian church will observe Wo- men's day Sunday, December 5. 5. This event is observed each year I by women of Christian churches i throughout the United States. I A special program will be con ducted by circle leaders during the Bible school hour.. The Rev. William ' C. Piper, new pastor of the .church, will , give a missionary sermon at the morning service and in the eve- ning officers of the women's fel lowship will present a program. Preceeding . this program the youth choir, under the direction - of Herbert Daniels, will present special music. All members and i friends of the church are invited to attend the various services. ,- Guild to Hear Traveler Speak Miss Elizabeth McGalliard will speak at a meeting of West minster guild, First Presbyterian church, Monday, December 6? It will be held at the home of Mrs '"Verl G. Walker, 2642 Merriman road, at 8 cm. Miss McGalliard will speak of her d recent -." European travels, and show pictures taken in Eu rope last summer. Hostesses for this meeting are to be Mrs. Wesley Coleman ' Mrs. V. J. Collins and Mrs. Walker. This will be the annual Christ mas program and party of the guild. . State Officials' . To Visit Lodge . Siskiyou canton, Patriarchs Militant, will have as guests state officers for an inspection and meeting tonight at the Odd Fellows hall. - The annual turkey dinner of the lodge and auxiliary will pre cede the meeting. It is set for 6:30 pjn. ' , Mrs. F.- -'A... Daugherty and Mrs. A. H. Gregory are co-chair men for the dinner. Anyone not solicited for contributions may call Mrs. Daugherty, 2-2004, or Mrs. Gregory, 2-2828. 4 Christmas Party Planned by Club Past Matrons' club of Reames chapter. Order of Eastern Star, will meet at 12:30, Monday, De cember 6, at the home of Mrs. Frank W. Little, 1602 E. Jack son street, for the annual Christ mas party. A salad luncheon will be served. Pocahontas lodge, Redman halL Training Class For Camp Aides . To Be Saturday A meeting of the newly or ganized training group for senior Girl Scouts has been set for Sat urday, December 4, at the Scout house from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Girls in the group are being trained to serve as camp aides. Those attending Saturday's session must take 25 feet of inch manila rope or clothes line sope; three sticks 4 feet long and about 2 inches thick, some cheap but stout fishing line and a jackknife. It is stated that girls not regis tered with a troop must do so Saturday. Those ' joining the group must be at least in the ninth grade and interested . in learning the camp skills neces sary to be a camp aide. : Stanger Remains In Portland for Second Concert Portland A. program of traditional symphonic classics is in store for the next Portland Symphony Orchestra concert De cember 13 when the dynamic young Bostonian, Russell Stanger, will reappear to con duct Brahms "Symphony No. 2" and Mozart's "Jupiter", sym phony. Also included on the pro gram will be ' Smetana's Over ture to the "Bartered Bride." During the interval between his first concert last Monday and his second, Mr. Stanger will. con duct eight school concerts, con sisting of 18 one-hour programs, given free of charge to he school children of Portland and vicinity. He will also direct the orchestra's first Standard Hour broadcast of the season on De cember 19.. Tickets for the December 13 concert may be reserved by con tracting the symphony 'office in the Park building. Master Points Given for Play Riverside Bridge club played for master points when the group met Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pruitt. Nine tables of players attended. Winning first place north and south were Al Gilhousen and Marion Milne, with a score of 75 points. Mrs. W. W.. Steven son and Mr. Pruitt were second with 74 and third went to Mrs. Van Gilbert and Mrs. M. M. Her man for a score of 67 1 points. Mrs. ' Frank Baker and Tom Munds were fourth with 65V& points. . East-west winners were Mrs. Pruitt and Virgil Temple, first, 75 points;- Mrs. E. K. Ricker and Mrs. Arthur Schoenberg, second, 68Vi points; Mrs. B L. Sanderson and Miss Isobel Stuart, third, 67; Mrs. George Choate and John Solheim, fourth, 59- Shower Party Given at. Harts Misses Ann and Sara Hart were hostesses last Saturday for a shower which honored Mrs, Floyd H. Hart Jr. The event was at 3 the home of Mrs. Robert Hart, 22 Glen Oak court. Fifteen guests attended. .The party was given while both hostesses and the honored guest were here from Oregon State college during the Thanks giving holidays. . - - Photographic Art. Now'on Display In College Hall Ashland Outstanding repor torial photography by the con temporary Frenchman Brassai, Cartier-Bresson, Doisneau, Ronis and Izis, are being exhibited at Southern Oregon college this week. - Hours of the exhibit during the week are from 7 to 9 pan. in the Art department rooms, Churchill hall. Saturday the ex hibit will be shown from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 5 in the afternoon. The 85 works by these photog raphers were selected by Ed ward Steichen, director of the department of photography, Mu seum of Modern, Art, for circu lation throughout the country. Henri Cartier-Bresson is rep resented entirely by bis Asiatic photographs taken in China, Indonesia, Burma, Bali and Cey lon. Most of these are being ex hibited for the first time and only a few have ever been pub lished in this country. " Brassai at 52 is the senior member of this group. Both he and Cartier-Bresson have exert ed a considerable influence, not only on, French photography but also on the best photography in Europe.! Work of both of these men has been published in the United States in Harpers, and by Cartier-Bresson in Life maga zine.. Photographs' by Robert Doisneau have appeared in Vogue. The work of Izis and Ronis is practically unknown in this country. Except for the Car- tier - Bressons, all the ; photo graphs in the exhibition were taken in Paris or in the prov inces of France. , ' ' ' .' - Membership Tea : To Be Saturday The annual membership tea of Medford branch, American Association of University Wom en, will be Saturday, December 4, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the home of Mrs. -Ralph Thompson, 18 North Modoc avenue. All AAUW members and -prospective mem bers are invited to attend, as well as all women registered in the various study groups spon sored by AAUW. , Mrs. Jack Lewis, study group coordinator, is in charge of dis plays from ,the various groups, states that women may sign up for additional study groups at this time if tfyey desire. These groups include decorative arts, applied arts, international rela tions, book review, Bible study, gardening and beginners' bridge. General chairman of the event is Mrs. F. T. Burich. ' The emu, the national bird of Australia, is the second largest of living birds. Adults average five feet in height. Shady Cove-Trail News Shadv Cove-Trail The Ore gon Myocplogical Society of Medford met December 1 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. ' Richard Bartuss of Shady Cove. Officers were nominated to be elected at the January meeting and. the by-laws received from Portland were approved. A . box of "oys ter" mushrooms was passed around for study, and identifica tion and several genus of mush rooms were discussed by Fred Lawrence. Members and guests present were Mr. and Mrs. Hall and Mr. Kilborn of Evans Creek, Mr. and Mrs. Jones of Ruch, Bill Isaacs, Mrs. Cox and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence, all of Medford, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Conway, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Watson and the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bartuss, all of Shady Cove. . Mr. and Mrs.' Joe Waltz of Shady Cove are parents of a boy born November 30 at Osteo pathic Clinic in Medford. This is their third child and first boy. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and ' Mrs. Lloyd Davis of Med ford. Mrs. Myrtle Eachus of Rose ville, Calif: is visiting her daugh ter , and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Levulett of Shady Cove. Kindergarten classes were be- gun this week! at the Medford Assembly of God, 1108 West Main st., to provide , Christian preschool training. . The school will provide a pro gram for developing the chil dren in essential preschool sub jects. Some tinje will be cbvot ed to the Bible on an entirely undenominational basis.
