(U.R) NBC cautiously tried out '"Medic" on television fans, but now the pro gram w 1 1 show more op: era t i o n s -be cause, the pro ducer revealed today, the pub lic doesn't think the show is. "blood y' enough. "It proves audiences are more adult than networks and agency people think," declared the pro ducer. ' " Want More Details i "Of all " the mail we've re ceived not one letter has com plained about the operations. On the contrary, they want more surgical and medical details. La tourette also has decided to show hypodermic needless plung ing into the skin, heretofore censored. On another program a brain operation will ' be de scribed, possibly with sound ef fects of the surgical saw cutting into the skull. 'We can't decide whether to leave in the saw noise," med itated Latourette. Censored Questions "Last week the network cen sored some of the doctor's ques tioning of a woman to determine her pregnancy. We wish we'd left it in now. His other lines about childbirth, urinalysis and so forth didn't bring one com plaint." ' .? "Medic" has received the Syl- vania Award as the most out standing program on television. It also has been honored with countless gags. On a recent Jack B jnny show a character sinister, "I've been an actor all my life. was born on 'Medic.' " Jack Bailey quipped on "Queen For A Day,". "I know an actor who was up for a part on 'Medic but he couldn't pass the physical." Other gags around town are that the casting list for "Medic" is called the casualty list. Or if you watch "Medic" for 39 weeks you get a free operation. Latourette is flattered by the jokes. T h e r e's only one he doesn't like that " 'Medic', is 'Dragnet' with a bedpan." . "Why, we aren't like 'Drag net' ' he . said. - "Some r people think' Richard Boone,-the doctor on our show, talks like Jack Webb buUhe's not going to talk that way any more." BOY SCOUTS Troop 8 Troon 8 had a court of honor and tenderfoot investiture at its regular meeting Nov. 30. Harry Barneburg conducted the inves titure. Produce Wire News Service Installed A printing telegraph machine connected with 100 other stat -ions on a leased wire network has been installed at the office of the Rogue River Traffic as sociation, 303 West Fifth st., ac cording to Western Union, from which the wire system is leased. ' Operated by Trans-Lux Crispo corporation's Produce News serv ice, the system provides fruit and vegetable market reports to firms here.' The network is 12, 000 miles in length. Medford is one of two Oregon cities having the service. Subscribers receive informa tion on daily market quotations, auction sales, offerings, trends, movements of fruit and price ranges, as well as weather re ports and fob quotations at ship ping points. ! . The information is transmitted from the New York office, and massages can be sent to all sta tions, or selected combinations of stations. Scale Model Kit Makers Expect Sales of 20,000,000 This Week New York U.R) A manufac turer from the West Coast has just unveiled his 1955 line of automobiles and expects to out sell General Motors, Chrysler and Ford put together. The new models are just that models. Revell, Inc., of Venice, Calif., is turning out 20,000,000 of them this year for the "do it yourself" trade. - To be more, exact, for those in the "do it yourself " crowd who would rather' let someone else do most of it- - Revell is the biggest producer of kits for assembling scale mad els of cars, ships and planes. Its sales have jumped from $1,000, 000 four years ago to $6,000,000 this year. Its customers are mostly men who like- models but are too busy to spend much time at it. No Apology . Milt Grey, vice president and sales manager of Revell, came to New York to plug the firm's newest models . and was -not about to apologize for undermin ing the old craft of model-making. "Men used to sit around for hours and whittle. But who has time w patience to whittle these days?" said Grey, obviously a man who hasn't touched a jack knife in years. "With one of our kits a man can come up with a detailed scale model in. 30 min utes to. an hour." ; The only skill he needs is a light touch on a tube of glue. The parts are already molded of plastic A diagram shows where the fenders or the wings or the smoke stacks go. ' Sailing Ship in Bottle Revell even puts out a kit to make a sailing ship in a bottle. The bottle is part of the kit. It is split down the middle so the ship can be slipped inside and the two pieces fitted together around it. , This isn't cheating, Grey in sisted. It is only a shortcut. The modelmaker is still doing some thing with his hands, and gluing a prefabricated model together is about all he has time for. Revell was doing a so-so busi ness . in plastic pull-toys until 1950, when it came out with a kit which assembled into a scale model of the 1913 Maxwell car made famous by. Comedian Jack Benny. More than 800,000 were sold within a year. . More an tique car models followed, then replicas of U. S. warships, jet fighters and bombers, old sail ing ships and some horse-drawn vehicles. ' . ; - v , Recently Revell offered mpdel makers ;two contemporary, cars a Jaguar and an MG and in January will hit the hobby shops with its first model of a modern American car, a 1955 Cadillac Eldorado. . Revell has sold more than a 1,000,000, models of the battle ship Missouri, and had a replica of the atomic -submarine -Nautilus was commissioned. .
