ment responded to a fire in the
ceiling and attic of a residence
at 2401 North First st. in Cen
tral Point yesterday afternoon,
according to Chief Or an Chas-
tain.
Damage was estimated at not
less than $200. The fire was ap
parently caused by a faulty
flue, he added, and extended to
the attic and ceiling of the
small house.

following surgery there, accord

recently had a seven-day rest
and recreation leave at Camp
Hakata on the southernmost
island of Kyushu, Japan, accord
ing to an Army release. He is
with the 49th; transportation
company in Korea arid is a
truck driver. Private Longan en
tered the Army in April, 1953,
and has been in Korea for 12
months. ' .

Ralph Throp and eons, Ronald,

rd., returned Tuesday from. Re
dondo Beach, Calif. They went
there about a week ago when
' they had news of the unexpected
illness of Mrs. Throp's mother,
Mrs. Myrtle Harmon, who died
Thursday. Mrs. Harmon left here
in October after visiting the

George Lewis of the Rogue
Travel service are to leave this
evening by United Air lines for
Portland en route to Honolulu,
Hawaii. They - will make the
trans-oceanic trip by Pan-Amer
ican Air lines and they will stay

Hawaiian vhotel at Honolulu.
