Around Hollywood . By ALINE MOSBY , United PrtM Correspondent Hollywood (U.R) Eva Marie Saint, one of the bright new stars of the year, finally got to Hollywood for the first time this week but she turn' ed down mov ies for a tele vision play, Eva Marie was that hero -i n e in "On The Water f r o n t" with Aline Mosoy e scrubbed, fresh face and long, natural blonde hair. The picture was made in New York and she had the curious record of being one star of a Hollywood movie who had never been to Hollywood, except for a vacation years ago. "The response from 'Water front' was tremendous and I was sent many movie scripts," she said. "But I didn't find a movie story I really wanted, while I have found many TV shows I liked. Y., eight years ago to try her luck at acting. After years of "doing commercials and bits," she be came a top New York TV actress who can pick her own roles. But it was a part in a Broadway play that won her 'Waterfront." "I liked working with Marlon Brando," she said firmly. "He was a perfect gentleman, and after all the things I've read about him. . . !" fl Publicity drums already are beating lor Eva Marie to be nom inated for an Academy -Award for her sensitive portrayal in "Waterfront." But she seems re mote from her success. For one thing, she confessed, she's still surprised she got the part. Didn't Try "I was watching some girls here," she said as she sat by the swimming pool at the Beverly Hills hotel. "They were beauti ful starlets, and I looked at them and thought how I hadn t even tried to get into movies and I did." She also does not think it strange that she turned down major studio contracts in favor of TV. "Several TV actresses in New York get offers from the coast but they'd rather stay in New York and study and act," she said as she brushed back her long, little-girl hair-do. ; "But doing good scripts on TV puts you ahead much more than one mediocre movie. "Besides, she added frankly, "I'm too old to be a starlet." All reserve Air Force officers now classified as in the Inelig ible Reserve section have until Dec. 31 to reaffiliate with a par ticipating reserve program ele ment, or enroll in the Extension Course institute to insure re tention of their commission. - This announcement was made by local officials of the 9091st Air center and 9417th Air squad ron operating in the Medlord area. Existing regulations require 15 points earned during a year by the reservist to match the 15 points given gratuitously each year to every reservist. Those who had failed to meet this re quirement on Jan. 1, 1954, were given a year of grace by place ment in the IRS. Those who don't return to par ticipating status, must be con sidered for separation from the reserve, or for retirement if qualified. Those who still have a remaining reserve obligation win De retained in the IRS, available for call but not permit ted to particinate in or to receive any benefits of the reserve pro gram.
