SIX MEDrORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE rrideyvNe-rembor. 28,-1954 Rambler Models Going on Display At Two Firms Here The Nash Ramblers for 1955 will go on display tomorrow at two Medf ord motor dealers, Surroz Nash, at Fifth and Bart lett sts., and Medford Hudson, Inc., Front and Jackson sts. The Rambler line is being of fered by both Nash and Hudson dealers for the first time this year, following the consolidation of the two automaking firms into American Motors corporation. The 1955 models include a two-door Suburban station wagon, Country Club hardtop and Club sedan, both, in the 100 inch wheelbase series, and the four-door sedan and cross coun try station wagon in the 108 inch wheelbase series. Styling changes have been made in all models, with the de signing done by Pinin Farina, noted Italian car designer. The new front fender design incor porates full-wheel cutouts to in crease maneuverability and per mitting a turning diameter of only 36 or 38 feet. 1 A new grill consists of a single die-casting to form a continental oval design, with the surface patterned with meshed bars. New Nash and Hudson medal lions are mounted in the center of the grill. Nash and Hudson dealers will have distinctive me dallions in the respective models. Unit Bodies ' - Featuring "unit bodies" with body and frame welded together in a single unit, reclining seats and twin bed combinations, all season air conditioning, and re styling interior trim and uphols tery combinations, the cars also have a range, of 11 solid and 11 two-tone exterior baked enamel colors. All Ramblers have tubeless tires as standard equipment. Three transmissions con ventional synchromesh,' automa tic overdrive, and dual-range hydra-matte are available. ' . She will visit Parliament next Tues- Dog Carries Notes To Earn Her Keep Council Bluffs, la. (U.R) Toby, a "hearing ear" dog, earns her keep on the Norman Scarvie farm four miles south of here by toting notes between her mis tress and master, both of whom are deaf. When Scarvie' is working in the barn or fields and his wife wants to get a message to him, she merely writes out a note and snaps her fingers at the dog. Toby takes the note and scam pers to wherever her master may be. ; Scarvie " is principal of' the Iowa School for .the Deaf and Mrs. Scarvie teaches social sci ences in the -upper division. - day for the state opening of the new session. Karl Marx Grave Occupies New Place London: (U.R) The grave of Karl Marx, - the father of Communism who died here in .1883 at the age, of 61, occupied a new and prominent place to day in London's Highgate Ceme tery. ' Marx originally was buried in an obscure corner of the grave yard but was moved Tuesday night .to a new location as a cost of $2100 so visitors to the ceme tery 'can find -it more easily. . ; A $14,000 memorial, of black granite and bronze figures is to be placed oyer the new grave but at present,) the site is mark ed only by stakes and rope. . Churchill Learns Of New Ancestors London U.fi) Prime Minis ter Winston Churchill today got a pre-birthday present of some new ancestors, among them Charlemagne, Alfred the Great, and William the Conqueror. Cyril Hankinson, editor of De brett's, Peerage, gave Churchill the new family tree five days be fore his 80th birthday. Hankinson said Churchill was descended from" Mary, daughter of King. Henry VII and wife of Louis XII of France. " Churchill has American blood from his mother, - Irish blood from his grandmother, Scottish blood from his great-great-grandfather, and Welsh blood from King Henry. ' ; Korea Wot To Oust Communist Truce Unit ' Seoul, Korea 4U.R)-The Re public1 of Korea announced to day that it would not 'oust Com munist members of the truce in spectors team Sunday as threat ened because of assurances from the United States that the mat ter would be settled "to Korea's complete satisfaction." Japanese-Hawaiian Farmer Tells Fantastic War Story Honolulu--CU.R) A wrinkle- faced ' Japanese farmer dressed in a baggy, blue serge suit ap peared in a federal courtroom here recently to answer the gov ernment's charge of failing to register as an alien. Kametoku Tomei, who has been farming a small patch of ground on windward Oahu for the past 48 years, looked the judge squarely in the eye and began to tell a fantastic but sin cere story. The 65-year-old Tomei ex plained in broken English to Federal Judge J. Frank Mc-. Laughlip that there was no need for him to register for the past two years because the United States had lost World War II and Hawaii was part of "the Japanese empire. Tomei's case was just one of eight which have- caused immi gration authorities and other federal officers to scratch their heads in wonderment. Tomei was a member of- a strange group called Hissho Kai, which, translated, means "Certain Vic tory Club." ' The organization gained prom inence in the islands shortly after the war and boasted a membership peak in 1947 of 4, 000. The club is made up mostly of gullible old Japanese. At present, authorities think there are only about 100 active mem bers on the islands of Oahu and Hawaii. The organization's original purpose is vague. But it is be lieved Hissho Kai members wanted to comfort relatives and Internal Revenue Tc improve Service Washington-J(U.R) The Inter nal Revenue service is ready to provide "improved service" in issuing rulings to taxpayers un der the 1954 tax revision law. , - Internal Revenue Commission er T. Coleman Andrews said last night that enough progress has been made in the "tremen dous" job of ; developing regu lations under the new law to ease restrictions on handling tax payers' requests for rulings. An drews announced last August that the service was developing the regulations. ' The service will not now be able to issue rulings on all ques tions. But it will try to reply to questions which it believes are clearly answered by . terms of the new law. - It also will answer questions where the answer may be in doubt under the e statute but where the taxpayer establishes that a ruling is needed because of a business emergency. The task of pinning down Hissho Kai leaders has been a tough one f of the L authorities. Members do not pay regular fees contributing to the organization when they feel like it. Initiation fees are said to be $10, but one family, authorities said, paid $1,000 soon after the war. In 1948, the known leader of the group was a man named Shohan Sunabe. He has since died, leaving no trace as to who now directs the organization. Sunabe said Hissho Kai could account for : every nickel paid by members and heatedly de nied it was a "racket" to milk devoted old men. 1 . The Rising Sun Actually, the only real harm the club has accomplished is to convince a number of aged alfens that they don't have to register with the immigration department. But if the govern ment can prove these persons "willfully" failed to register, it can order their speedy deporta tion back to Japan. ': Tomei was lucky. Judge Mc Laughlin, placed him on proba tion for a year and fined him $50 on his promise to r resign from the strange fraternity. La ter, a neighbor of Tomei's re ceived a similar sentence from the judge. But before that man was convinced he was an, alien, he stubbornly told . the court: "Untii my dying day, I'll never believe Japan lost the war." ' Another Hissho Kai member living in Hilo, Hawaii, was pros ecuted and fined for flying the emperor's flag. Officials in Ha waii are still wondering wheth er the organization is a threat or a joke. And they are constant ly keeping an eye out for dang erous rumblings from the group. In the case of Tomei and his neighbor, the aid of Takegoro Sato, Japanese consul in Hono lulu, was enlisted. Sato talked to the two men and apparently did a good job of convincing them to register as aliens be cause of the threat of deporta tion. Earlier, someone asked Tomei "Don't you see the American flag flying over Iolani palace, the governors office?" "Sure," the old man replied, "but don't you sea the golden ball on top of the pole?
