SIX MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Friday, November 19. 1954 Young People To Furnish Music at Apostolic Church The young people of the local Apostolic Fath . church, North Central ave. at Third st., will present an evening of music on Monday, Nov. 22, at 7:45 ociock, ( f & , H STEVEN JONES Young Singer The nroeram will include Thanksgiving numbers and gen eral sacred and classical num bers. The program promises to be interesting, as it includes music ians, from the preschool age through the Primary, Junior and Senior departments of the church, officers said. Steven Jones will be the youngest singer to sing a solo. Connie Hunt, of . the Primary department will sing and representing the pri mary department will be a boys' quartet and a Primary chorus. Choruses The Junior department is to be represented by a girls' chorus and boys' quartet. Miss Grace Iverson will present an organ solo. Efton Jones, tenor, will sing a Netherlands folk song. The Young Men's quartet will sing and a brass trio comprised of trumpet, french horn, and trombone will present a musical number. The trio also will sing. A Ladies' trio will furnish songs. Orchestra The Young People's orchestra, conducted by Mrs. Coy Bailey will play three numbers. The Young People's chorus of mixed voices, directed by Melvin Frost will present songs accompanied by Miss Lois Fiesen. Adequate seating will be provided for all those that desire to attend. No collection will be taken. The Rev. C. W. Fost announced that the Sunday services will in clude music in the Young Peo ple's service at 3 p.m. by many of the groups appearing on the above program. The evening ser vice will feature a musical pre lude by Mrs. Norman Allen, vio linist, and Mrs. Robert James, painist. Delbert Wes- The members of St. Peter's Lutheran church, 1020 East Main st., will participate in a Circuit meeting at Grace Lutheran church in Ashland, Sunday at 3 p.m., according to the pastor, the Rev. Kenneth Korby. The Northwest district of the Lutheran church, Missouri synod, is divided into circuits, or small er districts. The congregations in southern Oregon, represented in Sunday's meeting, are Klamath Falls, Ashland, Medlord, ana Grants Pass. The Rev. Amos A. Schmidt, executive-secretary of the North west district, will be speaker, and the leader of the discussions, which will cover the mission work of the church, the 1955 budget, and the program of edu cation expansion. Nazarere Services Announced for Week The Rev. Paul Martin, Oak land, Calif., is scheduled to speak Sunday in the worship service at the Medford Church of the Nazarene, Holly and First sts. The subject of his sermon at 11 a. m. is "How Far Are We From Home?" The service will feature a solo by the church's new minister of music, Ed Tay lor. Sunday evening Mr. Martin will speak on the subject "The Never Setting Sun." The son of a Nazarene minis ter, the Rev. Mr. Martin is well known for his sermon "Life in a Nazarene Parsonage" which he will present Monday evening. The sermon Tuesday will be en titled "Saints with Halos." Sun dav school night is Wednesday at the church when all Sunday school classes will strive for 100 per cent attendance. A picture will be made of the best repre sented class attending that serv ice. Thanksgiving evening a candle light evangelistic service has been planned. ' The carillon is similar to a set at the Arlington National cemetery, the Westminster Choir college at Princeton and many other colleges and churches. Coronation Model The set is known as a Coro nation model and consists of 25 notes, two full octaves, with a range starting at ' "G" below middle "C." The tone source of the bells is a set of tuned bell metals, struck by hammers which are electrically operated from three manual Reuters or gans. The tones are so true they may be planned not only singly but also m harmony and parts. They can be played to be heard in the church or outside. both. This SOS distribution of food is described as "the greatest world wide food relief program" in' the history of American churches. The food is furnished by the United States government from the surpluses in its ware houses. The distribution is to be handled by the churches through their experienced agency Church World Service. Five-Week Contest Closes at Friends The Friends Sunday school will -celebrate victory in a five- week contest which closed Sun-' day at an auction to be held in the church social hall Friday at 8 - p.m. - The Medford Sunday school won a surprise victory over Piedmont Friends Sunday school. Portland, which had led the contest until the last Sunday. The prize will be a dozen Bibles for classroom use. ' ' Durina the contest, "Quaker money" lias been- given to all who attended Sunday school, with extra bonuses for taking visitors, attendance at worship services, visitation and Bible reading. This "money'' .will . be legal tender at the auction to purchase the prizes -which have been donated. Items to be bid on include Bibles, books, pictures and household equipment, wail naner. draperies and light fix tures for classrooms will be of fered to class members who wish to pool their money to buy a class prize. The Crabbs came to Medford in 1950 to assist in the church building program. Mr. Crabb, ae president of the Willamette Val leyAdvfeM Chrlsfian conference, was interested in the church building program and Mrs. Crabb aided in . the work- as pastor ot the group., During that time the church; was built and is free oi debt and the membership haj doubled. All departments of the work are growing. .
