November 17, 1954 OMEN'S ECTION White Organdy, Blue Satin To Be Winter Hat Materia By ELIZABETH TOOMEY United Press 'Correspondent New York (U.R) Who'd ever think a well-dressed woman -would appear on a wintry day wearing a white organdy hat with her warmest coat? White organdy sounds more like garden party frocks than winter hats. And pale blue satin reminds more people o wedding gowns than tailored sailor hats to wear with tweeds.. But like the etiquette expert who picks up her fried chicken in her fingers and makes it socially . correct, certain people : can appear on the snowy scene wearing white organdy hats and make them fashionable. They're going to, too, along "about holiday season this winter. . While Organdy Hat "Look, it's a tailored white organdy hat!'' Irene exclaimed, holding aloft a small hat with a rounded crown and an inch- wide sailor brim and emphasiz- . ing the word "tailored." She designed . the severely tailored, untrimmed winter hats of white., organdy as well as i slightjy. fluffier white organdy draped turbans. Then she added the same styles in navy blue and black organdy, plus all kinds of small, ; draped satin hats in sherbet colors. "You can wear these with tweed suits," she said firmly. When she had arrived at her pink and beige showroom a few minutes earlier, the designer had worn a small draped pillbox, of white satin that just covered the crown oi ner neaa wnn ner aarK crav suit. -.. J T lilra email iatc " Trpno rnn. tinued. "They're more practical for most women. The only hat .that is right for you-and looks well on you is the hat you put on and forget. If you come home and forget to take your hat off until you're in the kitchen with your apron on cooking dinner then that hat is right for you. The designer's newest hats draw attention by their colors and fabrics, not their shapes and trimmings. They fit close to the head, are set back from the hair line and give an observer a dis tinct impulse to walk up and feel the material. Irene thinks a well-dressed woman can get by with three hats in her wardrobe. Here are her three recommendations: "A daytime hat for suits .that is either off-white or a strong color that goes with black or brown or navy; one hat for after- five, preferably a pastel silk or satin and one little black velvet hat that suits either day or night time occasions.'' Mrs. William A. Young, Medford chairman of the pro ject, says that gifts may be left any day this week at Young s Service shop, 116 North Front street. Candy, nuts, fruit or any good ies suitable for the trays may be contributed. Home canned goods are acceptable only if they are sealed with a metal top. Extras for the children are provided by Daughters of the Nile for both Thanksgiving and Christmas day v each year, and sewing projects for the hospital are carried on throughout the year. St. Mark's Guild An . all-da meeting is slated for members of St. Mark's auxil iary guild Friday, November 26, when arrangements for a bazaar to be held December 3, will be completed, officers have an nounced. Miss Murray will attend a meeting of Rogue Val ley area, Girl. Scout council, to be held Thursday, November 18, at the YMCA from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the annual fall coun cil of scout workers during which plans and policies for the coming year will be discussed, and reports of the past year will Lions' Carnival Set This Week; More Toys Needed , Medford Lion's club is com pleting plans this week for the annual carnival to be held Fri day and Saturday nights,' Nov ember 19-20, at the Roots motor building, Holly and Fir streets. During the carnival Medford Lady Lions will .sell homemade cake and candy, and it is stated that donations of these will be greatly appreciated. If pickup service is - needed, individuals may phone Mrs. Dwight John son, 2-9665 or 3-4910. Money from the cake and candy sales will be used to fur nish toys and dolls for under privileged children in this com munity at Christmas time. Last year more than 600 children re ceived gifts at the holidays through the efforts of Medford firemen and Medford Lady Lions. Medford Lady Lions report that a recent check of the "fire buckets" placed down town re vealed that few had made con tributions to the project in this fashion. However, the buckets placed in the schools, were found to be., better filled. It is suggested that those shopping down town purchase small items and place them in the collections buckets. Suitable purchases would be color books, hair ribbons, comics, socks, belts, ball point pens or small bottles of perfume. Members of the group realize there are many calls for contri butions at this time of the year and are not asking for money (although it could be used for good advantage) but do ask that everyone search the toy boxes of Junior and Susie for broken and discarded toys, as well as the garage, attic or other spots where such toys might be stor ed. These may be put in the col lection buckets, or a call may be placed to 2-2970 for pickup ser vice. - "If everyone will do this, it will mean more happy children at Christmas time," Lady Lions state. -4 - - be heard. , . In addition to Miss ' Murray, another visitor will be Mrs. Jer ry Deter, Yreka, Calif., who will report on a trip to Savannah, Ga., where she visited the birth place of Juliette Low, being kept as a memorial to the foun der of Girl Scouts. Judy Newman, Grants Pass, senior Girl Scout who attended the senior encampment at Camp Cody, Wyo., will tell of her ex periences and will show pictures taken during the encampment. Delegates who attended the re gional conference at Sun Valley this fall will report jn their trip and tell of the ideas and information they . gathered dur ing the meeting. Add adults doing Girl Scout work in Jackson and Josephine, counties are .members of the council and are invited to at tend. It is pointed out that as a council member, "it is the duty and privilege of each council member to attend the area meet ing, to know what is happening; help plan the activities of the future and exercise the right to voice her opinion.'?
