'Radio' Fleet
Washington (U.R) The Army
hopes to save time and money
on its Pentagon auto fleet by
inaugurating a radio-controlled
"taxi" system. "
The service was set up for a
necessary convenience because
of the high-ranking military and
civilian personnel who often
must grab their briefcases on
the run upon an immediate call
from the President, members of
Congress or the cabinet. The cars
aie assigned to the Military Dis
trict of Washington Motor PooL
A trial run in the use of radio
dispatched cars' at Ft. Eustis,
Virginia, the Army's Transporta
tion Center, produced excellent
results. Under the new system,
a driver upon reaching a desti
nation, would receive instruc
tions via radio to pick up other
passengers in the same vicinity
for the return trip, thereby elimi
nating the need of dispatching
additional vehicles.

ficer,-the use of radio equipment
will greatly reduce the number
of vehicles currently in use by
the MDW Motor Pool and will
"pajrfor itself'.' in a short time.
' : At first, the newly installed

hicles. It may later be expanded
until the entire fleet of Pentagon
cars is radio-equipped.
