Parents of
Los Angeles (U.R) Michael
Thomas Milliman was one week
old today. He is a very special
baby because he is completely
normal and will be cared for by
his parents, both of whom are
severe cerebral palsy cases.
Michael's mother, JoAnn, 24,
gave birth after four hours' la
bor at Queen of Angeles Hospi
tal here. Physicians said it was
a "rarity" for two cerebral palsy
persons to become parents.

Simple Explanation
-JoAnn was certain she could
care for her six-pound, five-
ounce baby.
"If God thought I couldn't
take care of the baby, he never

she said simply.

married in 1950. : and Richard
has been in training for a job
at United Cerebral Palsy offices.
When doctors finally realized
JoAnn was going to be a mother,
the pregnancy was watched
carefully because CP is believed
to be nonheriditary. Michael's
normalcy added to the belief.
Milliman walks with the help
of a cane, and his wife uses
cane or a wheelchair. They have
lived together and maintained

ance from others, and they plan

."Mrs. Milliman learned more
in her five days at the hospital
than most mothers ever do," a
nurse said, adding that Michael
was "the prettiest baby in our
whole nursery." . ;
