Formal Dinner Is Given for Queen Mother Washington (U.R) The na tion's capital today planned en terainment fit for a queen visiting Queen Mother Elizabeth of England. A plush press reception at Washington's Statler hotel and a private White House dinner were on today's schedule for the mother of great Britain's reign ing Queen Elizabeth II." The widow of King George VI spent her first night in Wash ington at the White House after attending a formal dinner there in her honor Thursday night. At the affair, the queen mother sat between President Eisenhow er and Chief Justice Earl War ren. On her arrival at the White House Thursday, she greeted President and Mrs. Eisenhower as old friends. The President beamed and saidj "Your Majesty, it's wonderful to see you again." Mr. Eisenhower also gave a warm welcome to two of her ladies in waiting whom he had met previously. A swarm of children also were on hand to greet her with bows, curtsies and handshakes. The queen mother, who last visited Washington with her hus band in 1939, will move to the British Embassy on Saturday and spend several days making the rounds of formal parties at the Commonwealth embassies. She will visit colonial Williams burg, Va., next Wednesday and Thursday and will fly to Canada on Friday. The program, first in the season for Jackson County Civic Music association,, will begin at 8 p.m. and members are asked to note the earlier hour. Dancing with Madame Dam-1 lova will be Koman jasmsKy, Michael Maule and Moscelyne Larkin. ' Danilova has attained the most exalted rank in her profession. In the ballet world, as in the army, there is a rank system through which dancers progress. Beginning with the corps de bal let, a girl becomes next a cory phee, a semi-soloist, and finally a ballerina. Very few ever reach the exalted rank of prima bal lerina, a rank which corresponds to that of general in the army. In the days of the imperial court in Russia, the czars would ele vate a prima ballerina to the rank of prima ballerina assoluta, or absolute ballerina. Critics and the American public have now elevated Danilova to this rank. She is the only dancer trained at the famed Russian Theatrical school who is now dancing out side of the Soviet Union. After coming to this country she be came prima ballerina of the Bal let Russe de Monte Carlo, danc ing all of the famous ballets and others created for her, and she has appeared as guest artist with the major ballet companies of the world. Within the past year she has danced in London, New York, Chicago and Mon treal, and toured Japan last sum mer. Roman Jasinsky, formerly maitre de ballet and premier danseur of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, is a native of War saw and was trained in that country. He has appeared in Leonide Massine productions, with George Balanchine's com pany as premier danseur and was an original member of the de Basil Ballet Russe which has toured several countries. Last year he was the partner of Alicia Markova and Tomara Touma nova. Jaskinsky's wife, Moscelyne Larkin, is a native of Oklahoma, being the daughter of a Russian mother and an American Indian father. Miss Larkin, who studied with Mordkin, Vilzak - Shollar and Celli, has toured Europe, South America and the United States with the original Ballet Russe. Later she joined the Bal let Russe de Monte Carlo, danc ing leading roles, and in 1952 joined the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo Concert company with her husband. The fourth members of the company, Michael Maule, was born in Durban, South Africa, of Scotch and English parentage and is considered one of the pioneers of the dance in South Africa. After serving four years in the Navy during World War II, Maule joined the New York City ballet as principal dancer and was with the company three years. He has danced with Janet Reed, formerly of Medford and now a dance star, and with Maria Tallchief in "Firebird." Costume Party Given by Offords Mr. and Mrs. Ray Offord, Old Stage road, entertained Friday evening at their home for their sons, Lynn, Gene and Steven. About 50 grade school students attended and the event was a masquerade party. Mrs. Offord furnished organ music for dancing and refresh ments were served.
