TEH MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Shady Cove-Trail News Shady Cove-Trail Miss He! en Suters of Riverside, Calif, is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Max YVopschail of Reese Creek, Shady Cove. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Kizer of Grants Pass are parents ol a boy. The baby, who has been named Andy, is their second child and first boy and is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Brown of Shady Cove. Mrs. Kizer was Miss Pat Brown before her mar riage. . Mr. and Mrs. Barney Lewln, now of Medford but for many years residents of Shady Cove, have just returned from a vaca tion trip to San Francisco, Wal nut Park and Santa Rosa, Cal ifornia where they visited rela tive and friends. , Mrs. Rico Bertogllo of Shady Cove has been called to Rose burg where she is taking care ' of her aunt who suffered a broken hip in a fall. Regular meeting of Our Lady of Fctima Club will be held Fri day evening, November 5, at Shady Cove school gym. Final plans will be made for the chapel benefit bazaar and carnival to be held at the gym on Saturday, November 13, from 6 to 11 p.m. and at this time the measure ments will be taken for the IS booths and concessions planned for. Fun and entertainment for all will be provided during the evening with free balloons being distributed to all children. Plen ty of good things to eat will also be available with home made candies, popcorn, pretzel pups, hot dogs, homemade pies and cakes and many other kinds of food. The meeting is to be a joint affair for men and women of the parish with . everyone being urged to turn out and give their help to make the bazaar a sue-' ces. . Ernest Martin of Shady Cove received an injury to his. foot while at work last Friday and went in to the hospital. The In jury was not serious. - Mrs. Dan Kaseberg of Shady Cove made a trip to Bremerton, Wash., over the past week-end.. Mrs. Carolyn Kelsey and Miss Allyn Goss have closed their Cottage Kitchen for the winter months and have left on a trip back to their home state of Connecticut. This will be the first trip they have made back in six years.-, '..:' A well baby clinic for the 'Shady Cove-Trail area will be held at the Shady Cove school gyra on Monday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The clinic is for children from 6 mos. to 6 years. Examinations will be given and immunization offered. Dr. Erin Merkel will be in charge assisted by county , health nurses. Anyone desiring further information may call 3088-Trail. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Dody of San Luis Obispo, Calif, have been guests of Mr. and Mrs. Travis Littlefield of Shady Cove. Mr. Dody Is a brother of Mrs. tittlefield. ; Mrs. Greta Peck of Seattle is visiting her sister, Mrs. Neva Taylor of Elk Creek, Trail. Mrs. Taylor's niece, Mrs. ' Eugene Bartholomay is staying with her while her husband, Lieut. Bar tholomay is stationed overseas. Mrs. David Allen and Mrs. Carol Darnell of Shady Cove were joint hostesses at a pink and blue shower on October 22 honoring Mrs. Edward Hodge of Trail and held at the home of her parents, Mft and Mrs. Jesse Walker ot Shady Cove. .A num ber of lovely gifts were received by Mrs. Hodge. Guests were Mrs. Stella Masterson of Butte Falls, Mrs. Elsie Williams and Mrs. Marjorie Gunkle and children of Eagle Point, Mrs. Pat Robbin and children, Mrs. Tay Tucker, Mrs. Lea Jones and daughter of Trail; Mrs. Lorene Lowery and daughter, Mrs. David Allen and children, Miss Shirley Allen, mrs. Twenty -three members and guests were present at the Octo ber meeting of Shady Cove Home Extension Unit held at the home of Mrs. Floyd Kelley of Shady Cove. The' project for the meeting the "Home Medi cine Kit" was given by Mrs. Wm. Shepherd and Mrs. Lewis Dusen- berry; The luncheon was pre pared and served by Mrs. Chuck Brewer, Mrs. Kenneth Paulson, Mrs. Marie McGill and Mrs. Wm. Bishop. Next meeting of the unit will be at the home of Mrs. Kenneth Paulson in Shady Cove on November 16. Project will be "Embosalng Thin Metals" with Mrs. Travis Littlefield and Mrs. Kenneth' Pauhon as leaders. All the ladies in the community interested are cordially invited. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Carls of Pomona, Calif, have been guests of Mr. and Mrs. Max Woodward of Shady Cove. Mr. Carls and Mrs. Woodward are cousins. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wells and children, Barbara and Bob of Los Angeles have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Joe Waltz of Shady Cove. .... Steelhead Post No. 6881, V. F. W. will hold the annual Thanksgiving turkey shoot on Sunday, November 21, at grounds on the Tiller-Trail high way about one mile from Trail. Prizes will be turkeys, hams, bacon and merchandise orders. In audition to the regular prizes there will be special prizes of beautiful myrtlewood gun stock blanks, secured from the shop of Fete Gould of Coquille. Oeiober tl. 1854 Eagle Point Eagle Point Mr. and Mrs, Elmo Billings - and daughters Donna and Lois Rae, of Okla homa, also their son, SSgt. Ed die Billings and wife, left Oct ober 23 to return to their respec tive abodes, after several days here as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Derry. Ms. Billings is a sister of Mrs.' Derry. The son, SSgt. Billings and wife came by plane to San Francisco from Hawaii where he is serving in the Ma rine Corps, to meet his parents so as to make the trip here with them. Mr. and IIrs. S. F. Smith have finally moved back to their place here in Eagle Point, at least for the winter months, hav ing rented their place in Cres cent City for that time. Among Eagle Pointers who re cently returned from vacation trips, are Mr. and Mrs. Orvil Henderson who returned home October 24 from a weeks visit in Sacramento, Calif., with relatives and friends. Others are Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harnish, who accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Bob Harnish of Medford. to Portland October 23 for a short visit with a sister, returning home Tues day. They reported the weatoer in Portland as being too foggy and disagreeable for them toen joy so decided to return home to the beautiful weather our val ley is being blessed with. Mr. and Mrs. Derry of s-agie Point received the sad news of the death of his youngest broth er, SSgt. Dave S. Derry In Enid Base hospital on October 25, from injuries received in an automobile wreck in his home town of Geary, Okla., a short time aso. He was 23 years of age and serving in the Air Corps. Besides his parents he left six sisters and two brothers and families, who all live in Ok lahoma, except the brother and family who live In Eagle Point. Deepest sympathy Is extended them in their loss. ' ' Mrs. Augusta Perry returned to her home were October 25 head Post Dnvid E. Allen and Stanley D. Straus were accepted into membership, as was Frank lin Glrard who was reinstated from another Post. The 1955 membership drive' is now on and any eligible veteran not now a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars is encouraged to contact any. of the present members so he may be able to participate in the winter's activi ties. Earl Messecar and daughter, Nancy from Anaheim, Calif, have been visiting Mr. Mes secar's father and family, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Messecar of Trail. Last Sunday they made a trip to Springfield where they visited Earl's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Jewell Peterson. By Nov. 14, however, Mercury will have moved far enough eastward that it can be seen as a bright ob ject on the dawn sky in a di rection almost southeast. , Brilliant- Venus, which 'most of the year has been a splendid "evening star," Is now setting in the southwest . only shortly after the sun, so can be sighted only with difficulty. This fine planet will pass nearly between us and the sun (inferior con junction) on Nov. 15 and will then be coming up in the east ern dawn before sunrise for the rest of the year. Mars Low in South Red-tinted Mars, by its rapid eastward motion among the stars, is still in the evening sky. An hour after sunset it can be spotted quite low in. the south. Although yet fairly bright, it is nbw greatly dim med irom us spienaor oi eariy summer when it was at the closest approach to the earth. Since there is no other bright stellar object in that part of the heavens, Mars can easily be located. The only other naked-eye planet, Jupiter, now rises in the east-northeast between 10 and 11 p.m. Since this planet is very brilliant, there will be no mis taking its identity. -The bright stars Pollux and Castor extend upward (in the order named) from Jupiter and form,, an al most straight line with It. Friends of the Van Scoy and Brown family here were shock ed to hear of the sudden passing of Harold Van Scoy, eldest son of Mrs. Lottie Van Scoy and brother of Lyle, Eagle Point, in San Francisco, October 25. Har old grew up, attended the local schools, married and lived here until he went to California, and into business with the Guerin Brothers highway construction contractors, where he has been since.
