J 85 New Program Planned for Senior Scouts A new program is being organ ized for senior Girl Scouts, and 20 of these met recently to dis cuss the type of activities needed. It is planned to train, senior scouts for work s camp aides for both day and established camp, and also to help with troop work. Leader of the group is .'. Miss Joan Sean. . The group voted to work for junior life saving . certificates and this instruction will be given by Miss Dean the second and . fourth Wednesdays of each month at the YMCA. The first lesson is scheduled for' Novem ber 10 at 7 p.m. . - : Attending this first meeting were Jean Taber, Karen John son. Stags', leaders of senior troops, and Mrs. Michele Rossi, presi dent of Rogue Valley area, Girl Scout council, were present to help in the planning. Miss Dean will lead the group in the aide training with the assistance of consultants for specific activities. Mrs. Spence reported on the regional conference which she attended with Bette Ullian from Grants ' Pass, another senior scout from this council, Miss Dean was their counselor on this trip to Sun: Valley, Ida., Oct. ii-i4. v- : . Mrs. Rossi explained the na tional encampment to be held in 1988 and also asked questions regarding their likes and dislikes for the senior program. Accord- . lng to the Girl Scout Leader magazine, the senior roundup will be held the end of June, 1996 at Highland state recreation area, located about 40 miles northwest of Detroit and 19 miles west of Pontiac, Michigan. If they meet other qualifica tions, girls who have been active as senior Girl Scouts for a year by the time of the roundup will be eligible to attend. Senior scouts here will hold a two-hour meeting on the first Saturday of each-month from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at St. Mark's par ish house. Date of the next meet ing is November 8. Any girl be tween the ages of 14 and 17 and at least a ninth grader is eligible : to attend the meeting. I 7 V. I - J " ' i- Mr. and Mrs. D. C. '. - Conference Report Given for Zonta; Announce Dinner Mrs. Ethel Tennant and Mrs. Irean Grigsby Thursday gave a resume for Medford Zonta club of the District VIII conference of Zonta International held at Aberdeen, Wash., which they at tended earlier this month. ' They reported that although the Aberdeen Zonta club is very new, in the district, the confer ence' was one of the most effi ciently organized they had ever attended. Mrs. Tennant said that there are now 10,848 members in Zonta International and eight new clubs have been added to the international organization. She reported that the guest speaker for the banquet, U.' S. Representative Mack, gave many interesting highlights in his talk on "Happenings in Washington, D. C." Mrs. Grigsby concluded with the announcement that the dis trict had voted for only one con ference a year instead of two and that the district governor will visit each club, coming to Medford in the spring. The new ly elected governor is Mrs. El len Harris; a radio commentator of Vancouver, B. C. The local club will hold It's next meeting at the home of the president, Mrs. Elsie Butler, Thursday, November4. Board members are to be hostesses for a dinner. Council Plans Annual Session And World Day The annual meeting of Med ford Council of Church Women will be held November 8 at Zlon Lutheran church at 1:30 p.m., with election and installation of officers for the coming yecx on the agenda. Dr. Raymond E. Balcomb of First . Methodist church will be the installing of ficer. World Community day will be observed. The purpose of this day is consideration by church women of ways and means to build a world Christian commun ity, without which there will not be world neace and which is an essential part of bringing in the Kingdom of God, a councu state ment eays. For nationwide observance of World Community day, united j church women have chosen two noints for emDhasis: One. the study of- the United Nations' World Health Organization; the other, "parcels for peace." Church women in thousands of communities will meet this year to pray for world peace and to dedicate their special offerings and their material gifts of warm clothing for . children, cloth for mothers to make into clothing, warm blankets and household linens. This year the "parcels for peace" will go directly to the needy In Korea, from the west coast. Camp Fire Girls have or ganized with the cooperation of the schools and service clubs to pick up articles for Korean chil dren tonight, Halloween night. and take them to the schools which will be open to receive the contributions and to give them their treats. Coker Butte road, left Sunday for 29 Palms, Calif., where she will visit for a week. From there Mrs. Payne will go to Los An geles for a week, and then will travel to San -Antonio, Tex., where she will visit her son-in-law and daughter,- Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Conner.
