Sen, Joseph McCarthy has made it plain he would like to see Case beaten. Case has said he would vote to strip McCarthy of his committee chairmanships. 2. The conservative elements of his own party In New Jersey oppose Case as being a leftwing er and, for a time, threatened to put up former Rep. Fred A. Hart ley Jr., as a write-in candidate. 3. The national GOP came to Case's aid. President Eisenhower gave him a lunch. Party speak ers, Including Vice-President Richard M. Nixon, party chair man Leonard Hall and House Speaker Joseph W. Martin, came to New Jersey to speak for him. 4. Masterminding the Demo cratic strategy is Gov. Robert Meyner who himself aspires to the Democratic vice-presidential nomination in 1956. A victory for Howell would be a boon to Meyner. 5. The Democrats are hitting again and again at the recent disclosure that the late Harold G. Hoffman, a former GOP gov ernor, embezzled $300,000 from the state. New Intensity : This week the controversy hit Skunk Holiday School Falls Before Wreckers DeWitt, N. Y. j.R) The "School of Skunk Holidays" has gone under the wrecker's ham mer. ' Not that skunks were the most important part of the 88-vear history of the Utile red school house in this Onondaga county village, but they caused what may have been the most unusual annual holidays ever proclaimed in any U. S. school district. Every spring, for uncounted years, a family of skunks moved into the old frame building. When pupils and teacher could no longer stand the odor, the trustees were notified and the official holiday proclaimed. Two years ago, the skunks won the battle. The schoolhouse was boarded up.
