Mr. and Mrs. Charles McLal len visited Mr. and Mrs. Joe Thomas of Medford Saturday. Mrs. Thomas had recently re turned home by plane from a hospital in Bellview, 111., where she had been confined sometime from injuries received in an automobile accident. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Evans of Portland, who spent two weeks vacation visiting friends and rel atives in Medford, and Rogue River, called on friends here. They both lived here for a num ber of years. A number from her attended the auction sale at the home of Mrs. Parken Pugh on Evans Creek September 26. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Kile of Rogue River visited friends here September 26. They had re turned home from a two weeks vacation with her mother, Mrs. George Mercer of Whiting, Iowa. En route they visited her sister and family at Osage, Wyo. Mrs. Glenn Chase entertained a group of friends and neighbors at a plastic party September 24. Mrs. Delia Greggs was demon strator. Mrs. Loretta Robertson under went surgery at a Grants Pass hospital September 27. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parker and daughter Krissey. took his mother, Mrs. Mary Parker, of Los Angeles, who has spent the past two weeks with them, to Klamath Falls September 27, where she will visit relatives. Hotel Will Combine Hotel, Motel Features Rochester, N.Y. (U.R) A new hotel combining the better fea tures of the roadside motel and the luxurious city hotel will be erected here at a cost of $1, 500,000. Harper Sibley Jr., 26-year-old sponsor of the project, said the uilding will be only two stories high but will have 140 rooms on a 214 acre plot. The rooms will accommodate two or three persons. So far as popular ideas of high blood pressure and low blood pres sure mar he Or. Brady concerned it is of little moment. The question which should con cern every smoker is, in my opinion, what effect anoxia has upon capillary circulation, for it is in the capillaries that the vital interchange of oxygen and car bon dioxide between blood and cells of the tissues and organs takes place. . Anoxia (want of oxygen in the cells and tissues of the body) due to gassing with carbon mon oxide in the smoke is the harmful factor of smoking, in my opinion, and I believe nicotine has noth ing to do with the ill effects of smoking. If nicotine were actu ally as poisonous as the old timers and many current medi cal authorities would have us be lieve, a chew of substantial size would lay a man low before he could spit, for an ordinary chew contains two or three times as much nicotine as the old timers considered "lethal." . By capillaries I mean the spaces between tissue cells through which the blood oozes like water through a sponge. Do nut confuse the capilaries with arterioles, the finest blood ve sels, many so fine that they are scarcely visible except under the microscope, but all having walls the same as the larger arteries and veins have. Nobody has ever isolated a capillary vessel for the simple reason that there are no such vessels. You can't very well isolate an empty space, can you. Professor? The blood oozing through the capillaries is under pressure, else it wouldn't seep through, but Just stagnate. This capillary pressure depends in part on the contraction or relaxation of the walls of the arterioles (smallest arteries conveying blood to the capillaries). In some individuals excessive smoking causes a kind of spasmodic contraction of the arterioles and hence the delivery of less than the normal amount of blood to the capillaries.
