Shady Cove-Trail News Shady Cove-Trail Bob Tngel, on of Mr- and Mrs. Arthur Engel -of Shady Cove who received shrapnel wounds in his neck and throat in action with the Marine Corp in Korea under went surgery recently at an . Army hospital back of the lines according to word received here by relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Mineher of Long Beach, Calif., are spend ing several days visiting Mr. and Mrs. Glenn, Collins of Shady . Cove. Other recent guests of the ' Collins have been Mrs. Collin's brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs T. H. Smith also of Long Beach. ! ' Judy Taylor of the Flounce Rock Ranch, Trail returned .Wednesday from Redding, Calif. where she had been visiting her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Hopper during her vacation, bonald Baldwin, son of Mrs. Salnh lmnm of Shadv Cove re cently made a brief visit home from Walla Walla, Wash-, where he has been attending college, Mrs. Ralph Lane and her sister- in-law, Mrs. William Shepherd have taken Mrs. Lane's niece and nephew. Donna and Leonard Lane back to Moro Bay, Calif. .Vernon Baldwin, youngest son of Mrs. Lane spent two weeks in Naval Reserve training at San Diego and has just returned. He will leave September 13 to enter Oregon State College at Cor- vallis where he will major in en gineering. Reorganization of Boy Scout .Shady Cove-Trail is underway troop activities for Troop 46, through sponsorship of Steelhead Post No. 6881 VF.W. Any boy eleven years or older who is not a member of the Boy Scouts but who would like to become one may contact Jim Hopkins at the Shady Cove Garage. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Brown of Shady Cove accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Grinstead of Bend made a trip to Salem last week-end where they visited friends and attended the North Santiam school reunion on Sun day. Mr. Brown and Mrs- Grin ' stead were pupils of this school 43 years ago. Mrs. Brown was principal of the school in 1918 . and 1919. The trip was made by the North Santiam Pass and back tc Bend by the South Santiam Pass. Mrs. Brown's brother and nephew, Kenneth Arnold and Melvin Arnold of Bend, . ac companied the Brown's home to Shady Cove for a visit A. P. Tucker of Trail suffered an injury to his eye recently while working near the summit ot the Slskiyous for the Three Pine Logging Co. His eye is doing nicely now and he is not hospitalized- Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Webster of Los Angeles were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Con way of Shady Cove. Larry Edmonson ot Dorrls, Calif., spent sometime recently visiting her sister and husband. Mr. and Mrs. George White of the Roguedale Court, Shady Cove. Navy Lieut and Mrs. A- C. Bergqulst and family of San Diego, Calif, are, guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Gates and family of Shady Cove. Other, recent guests of the John Gates family have been Mr- and Mrs. C. C. Spears and children. Skip and Carol from ' Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Trusty of Elk Creek, Trail entertained re cently at their home with an outdoor picnic dinner marking . the birthdays of their son W. R. Trusty and grandsons, Billy and Phillip of Crescent, Oregon. At tending were Mr. and Mrs. O. O. WUlson of Eagle Point, Darrell , White of Pendleton, Mr. and Mrs- Roy Johnson and son, Gar rett of Grants Pass, Mrs. Vir ginia Cardwell and daughters, Sandra and Patricia of Selma, Ala., Mr. and Mrs. J-. E. Hend ricks of Ashland, the W. R. Trusty family of Crescent, and the host and hostess.' , Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ash of Los Angeles spent week re cently visiting their cousins, Mr and Mrs. Irwin Howe of Trail. Also visiting the Howe's have been their grandchildren, Linda and Jimmy Steacy of San Pablo, Calif., who stayed with them while their Daren ta. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Steacy were, on vacation at Lake Tahoe. Mrs. Steacy is now visiting her parents while her husband is, taking his Army re serve training at Camp Roberts. Mrs. Mae Grisez and Mrs. Annie Alcayaga, both of San Francisco are visiting their sis ter and husband, Mr. and Mrs Walter Cross of Shady Cove. Other visitors of the Cross fam ily are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Johnson, also of San Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Laux and children, George, Jean, Judy and Joy of Maplewood, Mo., were recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Kelley of Shady Cove- The Laux are cousins of Mrs. Kelley and Mr. Laux owns and operates a bakery in Maple wood. On leaving Shady Cove they went on a trip down through the Redwood forests into California. Mrs. Everett FJrod of Trail entertained the Thursday after noon bridge club at her home on August 20. Members attending were Mesdames Ted Jantzer. Lewis Jantzer. Bill Wilson, of Train and Afley Spain, O. L. Williams, Floyd Kelley and Ivan Hale of Shady Cove. Prize for high score was won by Mrs. Lewis Jantzer and for low score by Mrs. O- L. Williams. Mrs. Hattie Anke and grand daughter, Marilyn Freese of Los Angelesjiave been visiting Mr. and Mrs- Ted Kucera of the Crater Lake Highway, Shady Cove- Mae Messecar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walt Messecar of Trail is working for' Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Walters in Central Point taking care of their chil- drenswhile Mrs. Walters Is pack ing fruit Mr. .and Mrs. John Ross and son who own the former Bailey residence across from the Ray Briggs house in Shady Cove spent a few days in Medford and Shady Cove recently. Mr- and Mrs. Ross lived in Shady Cove for a short time before returning to their home near Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Sandy and family of El Cajon, Calif., are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Briggs and family of Shady Cove. Mr- and Mrs. Scott Brill of Trail are spending a week vaca tioning in San Diego. During their absence their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edminster of Merced, Calif., are taking care of their place. The Edminsters and the Brill's other daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. George DeGregori and daughter, Christine of Castro Valley, Calif., have been spend ing their vacations with the Brills. The Brills took care of their granddaughter, Christine while the DeGregori's vaca tioned at Lake Tahoe for a short time. , Patrolman' Revolver Found After 28 Years St Louis, Mo. (U.R) Patrol man Bernhardt Schaefer got his service revolver back but it took 28 years. Schaefer's weapon was stolen from a restaurant washroom here in 192S. Kindergarten Teacher Appoinied by Church The board of education tf St Peter's Lutheran church has an nounced that Mrs. E. C. Tarns, 219 South Holly St., has been engaged as teacher of the kin dergarten which is sponsored by the church. Mrs. Tarns taught the school last year, the first year it was conducted. ' The board of education, under the chairmanship of G. J. Wolff, also reported that the total en rollment has not yet been filled. They emphasized that the school is for all members of the com munity, not just for members of the congregation. Children now five years of age, or who will be five on or before November 15, are eligible to enroll; Further information can be obtained by telephoning 2-4395 in Medford. BPA Seeks Places for Discharged Employes Portland - U.R5 Bonneville Power Administration has call ed on private agencies to help provide for 549 employees dis charged since Nov. 1, 1952. director for' BPA, said many of the terminated employees have already been placed with other agencies and private business. Potter, route 1, box 364B, Medford, has been county juvenile probation officer for the past year, coming here from Cal ifornia where she held a similar post. Crowell also came here from California about a year ago. He has been in juvenile work for about 18 years and is now serv ing as placement supervisor for McLaren school for boys for the five southern Oregon counties. Both are past presidents of the California Probation and Parole association. The couple will be at home at route 1, box 364B, Medford.
