TWO KEDFOHD (OREGOW) MAIL TRIBXTKZ Catholic Nuptial Ceremony W ?ds Joanne Gosch, Sacred Heart Catholic church was the scene August 22 of the wedding of Miss Ellen Joanne Gosch to William Edmund Dris coll Jr. The double-ring nuptial mass was celebrated by the Very Rev. Nickolas Deis at 10 o'clock In the morning in the presence of 250 guests. The bride is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Li Gosch, 243 North Ivy street, and the bride groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Edmund Driscoll, 1120 South Oakdale avenue. Arrangements of white gladi oli were on the altar and in large baskets, and satin bows decorated the pew ends. Bruno Pellegrini was organist, and Mrs. Howard Rickman and Richard Iven were soloists. The bride, escorted to the altar by her father, wore wed ding gown of white net wun lu ted lace lacket with long sleeves. Her finoer-tip length veil fell from a coronet of lace and pearls and her wedding bouquet was of steohanotis and white orchids. Miss Joyce Gosch was her sis ter's honor attendant. She wore a frock of pastel blue net with lace bolero and carried a colon ial nosegay of pink rosebuds and carnations with headdress of matching blossoms. The bridesmaids were Miss Carol Lutz. The Dalles, and Miss Patricia Gosch. sister of the bride. Their frocks and flowers matched that worn by the honor attendant. Eric John Jensen, nephew of the bridegroom, carried the rings on a white satin pillow. John J. Jensen was best man for his brother-in-law and Rich ard Coats, William Rombach, Fred Spiegelberg and Herbert Dungey seated the guests. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Gosch wore a blue lace gown with pink accessories and the bridegroom's mother wore a grey gown with black accessor ies. Their flowers were purpie orchids. Present for the wedding were Mrs. John Driscoll, Portland, grandmother of the bridegroom, and Mrs. Anna Melhart, Med ford, grandmother of the bride. Both are past 80 years of age. Both wore black gowns with pink carnation corsages. A reception for ISO guests was held at the Medford hotel. Mrs. C. A. Meunier and Mrs. John Cox cut and served the wedding cake, using an heirloom knife belonging to Mrs. Z. N. Agee Mrs. Madelyn Klinefelter and Mrs. Lee Pendergast poured, Mrs. Herbert Dungey took charge of she guest book and Mrs. Richard Coats and Miss Agnes Wieskamp took charge of the gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Driscoll motor ed to Lake Tahoe for their wed ding trip and will live at 219 North Oakdale avenue after September 1. . The bride was graduated from St. Mary's academy, Medford, and the University of Portland College of Nursing. She is a sur . gical nurse. The bridegroom also was graduated from St. Mary's school here and attended St. Mary's college in California. He was on the staff of Columbia Utilities company, Medford, for some time and has served 17 months with the armed forces in Korea. He will attend Southern Oregon college this fall. In Medford for the wedding were Miss Alice Yamashita, Seattle; Miss Sharon Callahan, Portland; Mrs. Ernest Segessen- mann and Miss Mary Segessen mann. Shady Cove. A number of parties preceded the wedding. Mesflames Herbert Dungey, Richard Coats, Lee Pen dergast and C. A. Meunier gave a shower for the bride-elect at the Meunier home, 1316 "Win chester avenue. Mrs. John J. Jensen was hostess for a recipe shower, entertaining at .her home, 322 South Oakdale ave nue. Guests brought their favor ite recipes, and the ingredients, Pennsylvanian Visitor in City Mrs. Florence Tussing of Jeannette, Pa., has been a guest in the home of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Swinney and. family, 1013 West Ninth street. Mrs. Tussing's last visit to Oregon was 30 years ago. The traveler also visited rel atives in California and In Port land and Seattle. Mrs. Tussing . is a graduate of the state school for deaf in Salem, and m Port land enjoyed a reunion with a number of her classmates. Mrs. Tussing left Wednesday night by Greyhound, and plans to return to Oregon in a year or so to make her home. ' AAUW Activities Planned by Board Plans for fall activities were formulated at a meeting of offi cers and board members, Med ford branch, American Associa tion of University Women, held at the home of Mrs. James S. Cummins, president of the branch. A tea honoring all members, prospective members and friends Interested in study groups of the association will be held Satur- s William Driscoll Jr: which were presented to the honored guest. Bridge and Pin ochle prizes were kitchen, gad gets, and these the winners also presented to the bride-to-be. Six teen guests attended. Of Speakers' Club Medford Toastmistress club met Monday at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Buonocore for a backyard picnic and in formal business meeting. Mrs. Leslie E. Wilson, club president, was in charge of the program. Theme, of the dinner was Mexico, with members and their guests dressed in costumes in dicative of that country. Mexican food was served and topics dis cussed during the meeting were based' An North American im pressions of Mexico. Dr. and Mrs. Buonocore were avarded a prize for the most colorful, If not the most Mexican, costumes and Mrs. Bernice Kunzman re ceived another prize. Miss Anna S treed, topicmis tress for the evening, asked members to discuss Mexican words that had been assimilated into the American language, the O'Dwyer situation, historical ne gotiations between the United States and Mexico, and Ameri can ideas of the southern coun try's dances and songs. Guests at the party also added items of in terest on Mexico. Area field director for the Girl Scouts, Mrs. H. B. Cook, who was a special guest of Mrs. Buonocore, asked members of the Toastmistress club to speak on behalf of the United Fund Crusade that will be launched in October. Group games con cluded the program. Festival Company Luncheon Guests At Carpenter Home Mr. and Mrs. Alfred S. V. Carpenter were hosts Monday to members of the Oregon Shake spearean festival company en tertaining at their home on Old Stage road. Guests swam and played games, both before and after luncheon, and held a line rehearsal to replace the usual afternoon rehearsal held at the festival theater in Ashland. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. John Conway, Seattle, and Mrs. George Peppard, Detroit, Mich, Mr. Conway, technical director for the University of Washing ton's drama department, design ed the Shakespearean stage for the festival association. About 60 company members and guests were present for the annual party. day, September 19. The event will be at the home of Mrs. Tred T. Burich, 2303 Hillcrest road. Mrs. Gordon S. Mackenzie, hospitality chairman, is in charge of arrangements for this annual party. To reheat cold macaroni, spaghetti or rice, place it in a strainer or colander over boiling water. Cover and heat for few minutes. Sunday August SO. IMS wedding party and members of the two families the night before the wedding, entertaining at their home. Dinner was served from a table covered with ah heirloom embroidered cloth and centered with white gladiolus and candles. Parties Precede Stratton-Faber Rites on Friday Many parties preceded the wedding of Miss Patsy Faber, Central Point, and Richard Stratton, White Salmon, which took place Friday night at First Methodist church in Medford. Mrs. Darell Huson and daugh ter, Miss Margaret Huson, were hostesses for a shower which honored Miss Faber. About 23 guests were invited to the Huson home on Lindley street for the event, and the bride-to-be was presented many gifts for' her new home. Miss Shirley Hutchinson and Miss Marlene Vincent, brides maids for the wedding, gave a luncheon for Miss Faber, the party being at the home of Miss Vincent's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Noble Vincent, 1319 West Main street. Guests were Miss Faber,' Miss Carla McKeen, Miss Sally Coo ney, Miss Jeanene Findley, Miss Margaret Huson, Miss Barbara Manley and Miss Marilyn Rus sell. Last Wednesday morning the bride-elect and her mother, Mrs. Everett Faber gave a -breakfast for the attendants. Present were Mrs. Don A. Faber, matron-of- honor at the wedding, Miss Hutchinson, Miss Vincent, Miss Anne Swanson, Lebanon, and Miss Janice Gladden, White Sal mon, bridesmaids; Miss Huson and Miss Jeanene Findley, can- dlelighters. Thursday evening Mr. and Mrs. Faber were hosts for a din ner which preceded the rehear sal. The party was held at the Faber home in Central Point and was attended by members of the wedding party, members of the families and a group of close friends. The bridegroom and his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Strat ton of White Salmon, arrived early last week and also here for the rites were his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Balsiger and daughter, Janet, Yakima. Among the bride's rela tives who came from a distance were Dr. and Mrs. Franklin B. Launer, an uncle and aunt from Columbia, Mo.; the bride's grand mother, Mrs. Alice May Launer, and an uncle. Dr. Linden Laun der, Portland, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mitchell and son, Donny, uncle and aunt of the bride from Concord, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Frank S. Far- re 11 were hosts Monday evening for a cocktail and supper party, inviting friends to their home on Siskiyou heights. About 100 guests attended. The buffet table was centered with an arrangement of pastel pink and fuschia colored blos soms In epergne effect and com bined with fuschia colored candles. A low table held an unusual arrangement of fresh fruits. Two parties were given Fri day night Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Collins entertained at their home on Valley View drive for Henry C. Hurskamp, Keokuk, la., who arrived in the valley last Tuesday to visit the Collins' and attend performances of the Ore gon Shakespearean festival in Ashland. The Collins were assisted by their son, Robertson, and a small group of mends was Invited. The same evening Mr. and Mrs. H. B: Murphy were hosts for a cocktail and supper party. The event was at the Murphy home on Ross lane and about 30 guests attended. Contemporary Book club members save the annual party for husbands last week end. Medford Student Wins Scholarship For Willamette Salem U.R) Miss Sally Cooney, Medford student at Wil lamette university, has been granted a scholarship created jointly by the Elk Lumber com pany of Medford and Ernest B. Devoe, Medford businessman. It is for the academic year of 1933 54, Willamette President G. Her bert Smith said. Miss Cooney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Coonejr, 717 Dakota avenue, attended Wil lamette on an Elk Lumber com pany scholarship during her freshman year and was named recipient of the Willamette val ley Phi Beta Kappa award the same year. She is majoring In English and has a cumulative grade point average of 3.9. Miss Cooney is a member of a student UNESCO group, the Wil- Uamette University Players and Delta Gamma sorority. Medford Woman To Leave on Tour Miss Helen Webster will leave Medford soon to spend the next several weeks touring Mexico, Central and South America, Africa and Europe. Miss Webster will go first to Santa Barbara and Long Beach, Calif., to visit relatives and from there will leave September 10 for Mexico City, going by way of Pan-American. Miss Webster, who has been women's director of Station KMED, has been succeeded by Miss Clara Margaret Daniels, well known In the valley for her dramatic and radio work. From Mexico City Miss Web ster plans to fly to Merida for a visit to the Mayan ruins at Chi chen Itza, and from there to Guatemala. At Panama she Joins a tour which will take a group of travelers to Lima, Peru, to Cuzco and to Macchu Picchu, an Inca , territory in the Andes. Later the travelers fly from Lima over the Andes to Rio de Janeiro. From that city the tour goes to Dakar on the west coast of Africa and to Leopoldville in the Belgian Congo. The group leaves from that point for a trip by bush wagon through the Congo, visiting pygmy villages, Albert National park and Lake Victoria, second largest lake in the world. Later the group will visiH Cairo, the pyramids and the Sphinx in Egypt. Miss Webster plans to leave the tour at that, pomi and will visit Athens, Rome, several cities in France, Belgium, England and Scotland. Miss Webster came to Medford in 1948 to set up the library at Camp White, and has worked for the Veterans' Administration as a librarian in Montana, South Dakota and Arkansas. From California Mrs. Alvin 1 Zelver and two small sons have arrived in Med ford to visit Mrs. Zelver'a par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Far- rell, Siskiyou court. A Todd. 843 East Ninth street. Medford. Todd-Haring Rites Held In Presbyterian Church ' An event of Friday. August 21, was the wedding of Miss Joan Carol Haring to Lt (jg) William Edward Todd In the First Pres byterian church. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Leona A. Haring, 14 Hawthorne street, and Walter L. Haring, Eugene, and the bride groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dr, D. Kirkland West read the double ring ceremony at 8:00 o'clock in the evening. About 100 guests attended the wedding and the reception which fol lowed in the church parlor. For the rites the bride wore an ankle length gown of white net with lace bodice trimmed in seed pearls. Her short tulle veil fell from a headdress of seed pearls and she carried a spray of stephanotis. Mrs. John Watson, of Medford, was matron of honor for her sis ter. She wore a gown of aqua marine net, ballerina length, and carried a bouquet of yellow chrysanthemums with chrysan themums in her hair. The ceremony began with the lighting of the candles by Caro lee Brantly, niece of the bride groom and Dennis Grove, cousin of the bride. Mr. Haring escorted his daugh ter to the altar and gave her in marriage. Philip Todd, brother of the bridegroom, served as best man and seating the guests were Larry Ryerson and Bob Brant ley, brothers-in-law of the bride groom. James Baker was soloist for the wedding. Pink and white gladiolus with blue delphinium arranged with candelabra holding white tapers formed the setting for the bridal party. Mrs. Haring wore a navy faille dress with vhite accessories for her daughter's wedding. Her cor sage was of pink rose buds. The bridegroom's mother wore a gray silk dress with matching accessories and her corsage was of pink carnations. The church parlor was decor ated with baskets of pink and white gladiolus. Mrs. Angus Todd, sister-in-law of the bride groom, cut the wedding cake and Mrs. Larry Ryerson served the punch. Mrs. Phil Todd was In charge of the guest book. Kenneth Raymond To Give Recital Kenneth Raymond will pre sent an organ recital today at 4:30 o'clock at First Baptist church, Central at Fifth streets, Mr. Raymond, who is a student at Northwestern Seminary, Min neapolis, has been spending the summer as musician for evange listic meetings in the state.
