TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Friday. August 3t, IMS Society and Clubs Dinner and Meeting Held by Auxiliary; Projects Discussed Crater Lions' auxiliary re cently held a "come-ai-you-are" potluck dinner and meeting at the home of Mrs- Jack Ingram, S14 Queen Ann avenue. Mrs. Tom Bessonette and Mrs. Floyd Eastwood were co-hostesses. The informal attire of the members helped make the eve ning a gay one. Mrs. Dalton Gressett won a prize. Plans were made for a rum mage sale to be held August 29 In Merrick's building. 112 North Riverside avenue. Mrs. Lowell Edwards is chairman. Mrs. Bessonette reported the net proceeds of the concession stand at the soft-ball games and also thanked each member for her co-operation and help on this large and profitable project The money raised from these projects is used to further the welfare work of the auxiliary and also to help the state school for the blind to which a substan tial amount is donated each year. Mrs. Charles Hoey, Phoenix auxiliary, and Mrs. Warren Brenner were guests at the meeting. , The next regular meeting will be a potluck dinner at the home of Mrs. David Irving. 2103 Hill crest road, September 10. Dance Jamboree Planned Saturday By Association Final plans have been made for a square dance jamboree to be sponsored by the Southern Oregon Square Dance association Saturday, August 29. If the weather is fair the jamboree will be held on the tennis courts, Cen tral Point, and in case of rain dancing will be held at Kershaw's Square and Camp Corral, accord ing to Frank Glenn, Central Point, chairman. No charge will be made for the jamboree, and all dancers are invited. Dancing will begin at 8:30 p.m- and callers from Roseburg, Klamath Falls, Grants Pass and Medford will be on hand. Dave Clavner, Los Angeles, well known square dance expert, will act as master of ceremonies. Miss Joan Wosky Recent Graduate Miss Joan Wosky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Wosky, 1728 Queen Ann avenue, Med ford, was graduated from Saint Francis Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in San Fran cisco Friday, August 21, during ceremonies held at the War Memorial auditorium of that city. Miss Wosky was awarded her nursing school pin by Miss Dorothy E. Deeth, director of at the ceremonies was Robert R. Gros, internationally known commentator and pub licist, who said, in part, ' "in terms of professional standing and community esteem, a nurse treads a path apart from others. As she walks proudly through life In her starched white uni form and distinctive cap, she is quietly honored by everyone for her dedication to a life of public service." Upon completion of her state board examinations, Miss Wosky will be affiliated with the San Francisco City and County surgi cal nursing staff. Mr. and Mrs. Wosky were In San Francisco for the cere monies. Nurse Returns Camp White Miss Grace Stuhr, chief nurse for the Vet erans Administration, returned to duty this week following a 10-day visit to Portland where she held a reunion with mem bers of her family. Fuson-Pruitt Team Head Bridge Players Mrs. T. J. Fuson and Roy Pruitt scored 46 points to win first place for the weekly session of Medford Duplicate Bridge club. The club plays each Tues day night Mrs. B. B. Hughes and B- L. Sanderson were second with 44 Vi points, and third went to Mrs. R. Milestone and Mrs. Bend Todd for 43V4 points. Mrs. Alice Swanson and Mrs. L. J. Carkin, Once Lawyer Here, Pians To Retire Salem John H. Carkin, former Medford city . attorney and Jackson county representa tive, now head of the rail trans portation office for the Oregon Public Utilities Commissioner, will retire at the end of this year, it was announced this week.. Carkin, - 69, is a native of Maine- He came to Oregon near the turn of the century, and was admitted to the Oregon bar in 1909, and practiced law for 21 years. He was Medford city attorney from 1921 to 1929, and was a representative in the leg islature from Jackson county in 1613, 1923, 1925, 1927 and 1929, serving as speaker of the house of representatives in 1927-28. In 1929 he was named a mem ber of the state tax commission and served for 10 years. He has made his home in Salem for a number of years. Commissioner Charles H. HelfoJ zel, in accepting Carkin's resig nation, said his service has been invaluable, and that the state is indebted to Carkin for the years "which you have served it with honor and ability."
