Comment On This and That Umteo Washington UJ9 Stuart Little thought that what the world needed more than any thing else was a booklet on crows. So he wrote many of his friends includ ing me. asking for crow an ecdote. Little wish es that he hadn't He got a lot of crow but what was worse be got a lot of live crows. All mean crit ters. They are all over his rather smallish quarters at 5th avenue and 42nd street in New York City. If our man is unhappy, his secretary, Ann Prokopowicz, is thrice as miserable. Secretary Balks Being a crow sitter is not in Ann's contract, she says. And National Lawyers Guild Placed on Subversives List Boston (U.R) Attorney Gen eral Herbert Brownell Jr., an nounced today he intends to put the National Lawyers Guild on his official" list of subversive organizations. In a speech before the Ameri can Bar Association, he said the Justice Department has un earthed evidence to show that the 16-year-old guild is now "a Communist dominated and con trolled organization fully com mitted to the Communist party line." In Hands of Communists "It has been clear," he said, that at least since 1946, the leadership of the guild has been in the hands of card carrying Communists and prominent fel low travelers" He said the guild "has become more and more the legal mouth piece for the Communist party and its members." Brownell told the ABA that he has notified the guild that, in ac cordance with his newly estab lished procedure, it is entitled to a hearing before being formal ly added to the list of subversive organizations as a Communist front. SAFE DEPOSIT Fort Worth, Tex. U.R) Mar tha Hayes left her billfold on a balcony seat while attending the Central Texas Conference at the Methodist Church. She found it the next day exactly where she had left it money and all. W. NICHOLS ' Nahm Writer she is frank to admit she's about to fly the coop. ; A guy in Plainfield, N. J, sent Little a cantankerous black fellow named James. James took an immediate dislike to Little and drove same home with a hard nip to the Little nose. Little got lot of other crows, too, but no cages to put them in. He also got some of the crow stuff that comes in bottles which wasn't so bad. Along with the feathered pets he actually did get some anec dotes. None of which he be lieves. A sportsman from Lebanon, Pa., lightened Little's load some what by sending a crow calL He suggested 'that if I want ed to know all about crows I should run out on Fifth Avenue and tootle," he said. "I have tootled myself black in the face but the only crows I get are dumb birds which come collect" A farmer in Kansas said that in 1871 his grandpappy fixed up a wooden leg for a crow that had come foul of a hunter. The bird stuck around the barn for a time and then flew. The far mer swears that a one legged crow came back in 1918, also wearing a wooden leg. Only way I can figure it the farmer said "is that we start ed a breed of birds wearing wooden legs. Anyway, one comes back every season, about corn planting time. Those dura crows have been taught to spy on our corn crop."' All of which has Little think ing about eating crow. uv r mm Mm Chow Mcin AND CHOP tUIY l"Wa e--- cmcrm tra .
